"I've been visiting the Gregson Centre for many years now and I have to say I still enjoy going once in a while to go to a place with a nice atmosphere and relatively cheap drinks. However, I've found that the price of the food...has drastically increased compared to what it was previously. The food is delicious (except for the pizzas, but I'll mention that in a sec) and the prices used to be a lot more reasonable; I feel that now they're not worht paying for, which I feel bad for saying. The pizzas have seemed to decline in quality recently. Whenever I got one with meat on it, it would come out extremely greasy and not really a wholesome experience. Even pizzas that don't have any meat products on them still come out a bit too greasy for my tastes. They used to be a bit cheaper and of better quality. I love the atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food no longer worth its price unfortunately."

Lovely food, large portions. Prices relatively high. It has a friendly atmosphere and roaring fire. It's also dog friendly.

Can be good but lost food next door now have to order in. Needs the vibrancy as gone down. still community, social feel to it. Rooms for events are ok. Needs a reboot kinda feel to it. Needs food again.

a good place of focus; the gregson centre meets this necessity. a reasonable selection of drinks and means of living to make reasonable plans. the personal is helpful and friendly and fits into the overall atmosphere.

I went to the Gregson centre with some people that I have known for a long time. We wanted a big meal, and the staff there said that was OK. The good was lovely, but in the way out a woman in clothes made from...hemp asked if I would buy her vegan carpet. I didn't though.

On the last visit the new menu does not label what is vegan so you have to ask...and it is very expensive for boring food. Maybe a visit to other places in town doing creative food for less may help give them ideas of...what customers can get in town-you feel like the Gregson doesn’t really care about its offering! I really like this place because it is very close to my house, this was the second time since the new kitchen, unfortunately both were just ok. Eating was not terrible, but for the price was a bit averaged, had a school dinner vibe. about it. probably not for a past back. beautiful place for a drink when the fire is, although beer is also quite expensive. personal very friendly.

We went for family breakfast but decided not to order in the end. We have always been impressed with the quality of the food, but sadly the prices have been put up way beyond what is reasonable now (in our opinion. than 12.50 for...a breakfast and coffee... 10 for the breakfast), brie and bacon burgers 14....possibly the most expensive place in Lancaster for this type of food. Sadly lost our custome.

"I stayed here during my 2023 John O'Groats to Lands End ride, when I was accompanied by my wife and 13 year old son, who were acting as support crew. The Sun Hotel is a quirky boutique hotel housed in an historic building with extensive accommodation located above the pub and accessed via a unique flight of stairs and a labyrinth of intriguing corridors set out on different floors. Indeed, as you wander through, you are able to learn much about its character and history from many informative notes displayed on the walls. We shared a snug family room with a camp bed for our son but we were very comfortable. Our ensuite bathroom was clean and bright with a bath, shower and toiletries provided. The usual kettle, tea and coffee were provided but with limited alternative options. Make sure you turn off the provided digital alarm clock before slumbers unless you need an early start! There are truly are some larks out there. The room was a little noisy overnight where it was overlooking the street at the front – a combination of late night revellers and morning deliveries – but this is to be expected when you stay in the heart of a city. Lancaster was literally right on our doorstep. The staff were incredibly welcoming and approachable even before our stay responding promptly to any queries we had. We enjoyed dinner in the pub on the ground floor which was not overly noisy with a good atmosphere and attentive staff. The food was good and inexpensive, especially if you share a platter. Having booked direct with the hotel, our stay included breakfast from a set menu, served in the bar area downstairs. This was extensive ranging from the traditional cooked full English breakfast to many plant based and fruit alternatives, including pancakes, acai smoothie and granola jar. It is advisable to pre book this the night before to reduce waiting times in the morning if you are in a rush. Tea, coffee and fruit juice freely available The hotel is found on a complicated one way system with heavy traffic but well handled by Google. The cycle route approaches on quiet canal path but I did push up a one way street to the hotel rather than cycle a circuitous route around the one way. The only drawback is that there is no onsite parking not a problem if you only have a bike. At the time of our stay, there was paid street parking outside the hotel on the road for up to 1 hr or free overnight from 6 pm until 8 am. We would advise checking Google for parking locations beforehand to find alternatives, especially if the recommended nearby multi storey parking is not suitable because of a roof box, etc. My bike was locked away in a cellar inside, down a steep flight of stairs and only accessible by staff."
