"We visited this charming pub with friendly staff for Sunday lunch. Initially, I thought the price of £16.95 was a bit high, but I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful meal. The beef was delicious and we received three large slices. I wish we had each received a plate of vegetables instead of sharing one between us, but overall the meal was very tasty. I suggest removing the Mange tout as it is not a great vegetable choice. Another pub down the road offered two lunches for £20, but the quality of our meal was worth it. We would definitely return to this pub as the drinks were reasonably priced too."

I came on my own one night, and ordered the souffle. It was so good we came back 2 nights later. Three delicious souffles they couldn't have been better.

Popped in for a drink and a meal. The lady (landlady? behind the bar was most welcoming. Enjoyed a good beer and delicious meal served promptly. Highly recommended

Dreadful service. Sat for 30 mins before order taken. Food ok when it arrived 45 mins later. Ordered 1 sweet and it took 45 mins despite no other people in the restaurant. Really poor service. And they look at you like it’s your fault.

Friendly pub for a drink. However we decided to have evening meal one night and wow!! We had homemade steak pie with mashed potato and veg. It was absolutely delicious. Packed with steak and oh the gravy!!! 100% recommend. The best meal in Leyburn by a country mile. Thank you

We stopped by for dinner one evening during our extended weekend in Leyburn. The restaurant had a good variety of beers and the house wine was reasonably priced. We both decided to try the Golden Lion Burger, topped with smoked bacon and melted cheese, and we found them to be absolutely delicious.

We had a fantastic time! Our waiter Max was delightful, the gluten free option was incredibly tasty and just what we wanted. The portion sizes were generous and left us feeling very satisfied. The only downside was the noticeable lack of cleanliness. Overall, it was a wonderful meal and a great night out.

Great experience while in Leyburn our B and B had recommended the Golden Lion for a nice meal and this proved to be a great choice. The lamb was beautiful and it fell off the bone the accompanying thick cup chips were fresh and soft. My husband enjoyed gammon with all the accomplishments. The pub was busy with a nice ambience and I would highly recommend and would go out of my way to eat here again.

We stopped for Sunday lunch on the way to a holiday and accepted that they might not be able to fit us in or we would have to sit outside, as they were clearly busy and short-staffed. But we did not expect to be ignored totally by the bar staff for several minutes. A quick nod and 'Hi we are busy but will get to you as soon as we can ' would have been nice and not taken much time. When we were finally acknowledged, we didn 't have to wait too long for the food, which was well cooked and really good.

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
