"Was there on a Friday evening, the friendly but highly unprofessional waitress nearly spoiled the evening for us: handed the menu to the men first, could not answer any questions about the food, served a a stale beer (after giving back the beer she generously mentioned that it would not appear on the bill). I ordered oysters as a starter and lobster as main course. After a while the waitress came back and explained the run out of loberster (which is sort of curious, taking into consideration that one of the larges suppliers of lobsters is next door to the restaurant). However, the food (in my case. just the oysters) was good. Taking the poor service into consideration the restaurant is clearly overpriced. Maybe you will have more luck, so I will look forward to future reviews of "Das Seepferchen". Up till then I'd rather go to my favorite Fish Restaurant just 100 meters westwards..."

One of the best restaurants in Hamburg by far! Good seafood, perfect service in a beautiful ambience.

Although it's been a year since I was here, I can definitely say that this was a restaurant worth trekking through the Fishmarkt to find. I distinctly...

Had a lovely lunch her autumn of '15. Nice, reasonably price 3 courses on the patio. Fish was well cooked, nice wine to accompany it. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Good restaurant in the Firschmarkt area of town. Was there for lunch and they have plenty on offer for lunch menus at fair prices. Really enjoyed my noodles... Voir le carte

Being a "fish" city, it is not easy to select one or two good fish erstaurant, by nature Hamburg offers more. This one has a modern ambiente, excellent service and always fresh fish! Only dilemma is ; if you are frequent visitor, the menu dont change so often. More or less all the time same menu. Better for people who knows what they will get for what they pay. But fore adventureres; after a while it may be boring.Still worths a try!

Had a 4 hour stop between trains in Hamburg and wanted something else than the c**p around the train station. Walked towards the harbour and though it can't be worse than McDonalds. Pleasantly surprised by this place. Simple food but very nice. I went for the suggestion of the day and it was a very nice fillet of Pike Perch with buttered vegetables. Simple, But exactly what I wanted. Extremely happy with myself for taking that walk and trusting my hungry tummy.

We went here on the recommendation of our concierge after our first choice was fully booked, and on asking around, the place seems to have a very good reputation in Hamburg. It is a modern-looking, relatively laid-back place with a focus on fish. The catch of the day is presented to you at the start of your meal for you to choose from. I had a very nice cod prepared without fancy sauces and such, allowing the fish to 'speak for itself' as it were. The staff were friendly and worked hard to translate the menu for us.All in all, recommended. Voir le carte

Went to this lovely city for a few days break. Tried this place near the harbour. Its big and there is plenty of room on and between the tables. Its a comfortable friendly place with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Service is good. Bread is wonderful. My "foaming soup" with bacon was a bit one dimensional but was fine. But my expensive sea bass wasnt. Flavour was ok, but the texture was soft. Bass should be firmer. This was fresh fish and a restaurant specialising in fish couldnt get it to me in decent condition. Not ImpressedAnd when the bill arrived at 75 Euros per head I felt very let down.

My partner and I made the mistake of eating out in Hamburg without a reservation on good Friday. We wanted to try a seafood restaurant as Hamburg was known for this. We went into this restaurant and were initially told it was full but then the waitress came after down the street and they had made a table up. The staff in there were friendly and attentive. The waitress was very informative and provided us with lots of information about the dishes and recommendations which was a nice personal touch. The food was very nice and fresh. I would definitely recommend the creme brûlée for desert one of the best I've had.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
