"I have given two stars for the service. We booked a table for two for Sunday lunch on the first day of our holiday in Snape. We arrived and the two lads serving were very professional and helpful. My wife ordered the Sunday roast and I chose the fish and chips. I love fish and chios and eat them regularly, both as take away and in restaurants. The fish and chips that I was served at the Crown was dreadful. I am 62 years old and these were by far and away the worst gish and chips I had ever been serves. The chunky chips looked very unappetising and were clearly overcokked. They were dark in colour and very hard to the touch, I only managed to eat 3 or 4 chips. The fish was like the type you buy frozen, The bayter was thin and again very overcooked. A couple of mouthfuls and I could manage no more. I showed the food to one of the young lads serving and asked him if he would eat it. He did not reply and apologised. I informed him that I was not complaining to try and obtain some king of discout, but to his credit he kindly did give us a good discount. I am not sure if the food was cooked by a trained chef or a family member, but it was very poor. We will not return."

I have many fond memories of this terrific, ancient pub over the yearsIt is actually in Snape, not Saxmundham - about five miles difference.

A friendly country pub with good food, mostly from their own garden, and well kept Adnams beer. Convenient if you are going to a concert at Snape Maltings.

We were looking forward to supper here, but were left disappointed, fish and chips was all batter and few chips, very greasy and service indifferent. Shame, as previous visits for lunch were good.

I love this place and the fact it’s a family run pub makes it a much more appealing. Have ordered online for pick up and been to visit with friends and now family. A definite choice for relaxing dining and a friendly atmosphere. Voir le carte

I absolutely adore this pub! The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the food is top-notch, and they are able to accommodate any dietary restrictions. A huge plus for us is the large field that they allow us to use for our Motorhome.

I visited the restaurant during its first week of opening on a busy Saturday night. I didn't see any sign of the new owners, which I thought was a missed opportunity. The staff was very friendly, but the food was just okay. The lobster tortellini seemed like it was bought in, as it did not taste like freshly made pasta. I plan to give it another try in the summer.

Stayed here for one night in the car park after finding it in Brit stop book. Excellent little pub with helpful staff. Made us and our dog feel very welcome. My wife ordered the home made cottage pie and it was delicious. Heard a couple moaning about the wait for food but if it’s made fresh and home made surly 30 mins of your stay is worth the wait. Excellent adnams beer choice too. Keep up the good work guys Voir le carte

Fantastic hospitality very good reception Dog Friendly what more could I say! You have got it all right except for your Chief!! Perhaps do the cooking yourself putting the same effort as you do so well in the other parts of your wonderful business. I will not go into detail as you had a complaint about the over done chips from others sitting near to us. I wish this only as constructive criticism and not to slag off all the hard work you have put into a lovely business.

We parked our MotorHome for a beach weekend and stopped by The Crown for a drink and some food. The pub is very dog-friendly and we were able to find a nice bed for our furry friend while we enjoyed a delicious pizza for dinner. The portion size was perfect for sharing. The pub is conveniently located near Snape Maltings, so we took a morning walk to get coffee and stretch our legs. We will definitely be visiting again, as the local walks seem fantastic and we appreciate the large car park and access to water for our MotorHome.

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."
