"Horribly overpriced for poor quality food. The price was already pretty high on the menu so I had thought about leaving and going elsewhere, but I was very hungry already. Then he charged me an even higher price than what it said on the menu. I don't know if he thought that I was a tourist and it was ok to rip me off or something. I'm not the type to stand there and get into an argument with people, so after paying a ridiculous amount, I ate the hugely disappointing food. The chips were terrible. They were really hard and overcooked. I probably should have thrown it away as I felt quite sick afterwards, but I had been upset about the thought of wasting the money. With the cost of living these day, I don't treat myself to takeaway food very often. I know there are much better fish and chip shops in Canterbury, so I would recommend going to any other one. This just seems like a place designed to rip off tourists due to its central location."

If this is the best fish and chips in town thank goodness I didn't try the others. Surly unhelpful man served me. The batter was stodgy and the chips were greasy and unpalatable. Avoid Voir le carte

Overpriced. Only take cash! Staff doing you a favour serving you. Food mediocre at best. Small chips is really small and if you have a sausage as well, this gets wedged into cone so you get even less chips. Probably the worst chippy i've ever been to.

Pete was amazing at arranging our family lunch takeaway. He couldn't be more accommodating for our needs, even offering to drop it down to where we had parked. He went above and beyond. Even better, the food was perfect, and huge portions too. Excellent value for money. We will be back, and have told all our friends too. We will be back.

Having had our ferry trip to England from Holland cancelled twice these last 2 years due to Covid restrictions we finally managed to get there again last week, what a delight. Great to see so many tourists back again and for us to tuck into what we think is the best fish chips in Canterbury, ‘the City Fish Bar,’ for us it’s a real treat and a special trip down memory lane. They didn’t disappoint, once again gorgeous crispy cod in batter, mushy peas, curry sauce, thick, yummy chips and for me as always, a sausage in batter, my wife and I loved it. Thanks guys ..we’ll always be back. Voir le carte

Nice fish and chips, well cooked….however extremely small portion at high prices. Small portion of cod and chips for 3 persons cost £33.00 !! BUT then he had the audacity to charge another £3.50 for the tiniest bottle of water….when queried he said he also charged for the sauce…which was the smallest pot of cheap tomato sauce. Embarrassed at being caught out he offered us more tomato sauce but one of our group had ordered mayonnaise. He then gave us sachets of the cheapest mayonnaise not the Hellman’s behind the counter. Spoilt the visit by such overpricing. To rip off the tourists eh? Well my friends are local and they won’t be back!

Has the City Fish Bar changed Management? For many years when we have a shopping trip to Canterbury we usually finish off with a really good Fish n Chips from the City Fish Bar, as good as any of the best Chippy's in Kent. Until yesterday that is, when it was the worst we have ever had from there! Gone was the lovely thin crispy light batter and golden crispy chips and what we got was two very small portions of soggy chips and two small pieces of Haddock covered in a think soggy gloopy batter! And at nearly £12 each this must now be one of if not the most expensive Fish n Chippy's anywhere in the UK.... Add a few small sachets of ketchup and you are looking at nearly £25 for two.... We can g...

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
