"The cafe was busy which was a good sign. We were fortunate to find a table and didn’t feel rushed to order as we sorted the kids out. You order and pay at the counter. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I was particularly impressed with how they moved an elderly party to a better table when it became available. The kids menu was good value. The hot drinks were generous and the food good. My wife had a salad which can be hit and Miss but she enjoyed it. The kids portions were perfect and there was even good value desert on offer. The only negatives were the lack of a baby change and perhaps the dirty plates could have been taken sooner."

Have used this cafe many times over the years. On this visit I had a cooked meal which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Service was excellent and I was able to sit at a window table.

Not the best looking place inside, rather basic and old fashioned but sandwiches are good and cakes are great. Lemon drizzle was the best I’ve ever had, and it’s my favourite cake so I’ve had it a lot!

We stopped by for breakfast, tea, and coffee. The staff was amazing - very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! We will definitely be returning the next time we visit family and friends. Highly recommend! Voir le carte

Visited here twice for breakfast and I can highly recommend. It was piping hot and delicious, and the staff were polite and friendly. I resisted the vast choice of cakes but I don't think I can resist much longer! Well worth a visit.

Service is friendly and efficient and most of the food is decent, however steer clear of the bacon sandwich- two measly rashers on two large slices of bread, left half the bread as wouldn’t have tasted the bacon, which for £5.95 is a bit rich

The restaurant is clean and tidy with a breakfast that will keep you full for the day, almost! The staff is polite and friendly, and I have visited many times, so it must be good. The selection of homemade cakes makes it a difficult choice to decide on just one. Voir le carte

Although a bit pricey, the main issue was the extremely rude and unprofessional behavior of a young man with poor manners. He lacked training and social skills, causing a negative experience. If he were part of my company, he wouldn't last long. Due to this, we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Use this cafe quite often. The food and service are always top quality and very reasonably priced. Called in for lunch the other day with a friend, and we both had the Shepherds Pie from the specials board. Well, it was fantastic. I could not have made it better at home,it was absolutely delicious, good portion and pipping hot

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity. "Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."
