"WARNING to all TOURISTS: This place charged my boyfriend and me €3 for the stale bread they brought without asking us. Lied about being sold out of the cheaper red wine to try to up sell us. We didn 't have more than 2 bites of the bread because it was actually pretty stale and we didn 't want to waste our appetite on stale bread. When we ordered our wine our waiter lied to us telling us the 2 cheapest bottles of red wine were unavailable and that we should have the second most expensive bottle of wine, then later told us they did have one bottle of cheaper red wine available but ONLY because we tried to order an even cheaper bottle of white wine just to test him. So again: Red #1 not available €13.80 Red #2 not available €13.80 Waiter Order the Red #3 €20 White that is a white wine! you want a red wine! €12.50 Red #1 is available €13.80 (I estimated the costs of the bottle of wine from memory) If I had been more wise I would 've left at this point knowing he lied to us but my boyfriend and I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, he was obviously not a Spaniard so maybe he saw us as rich Americans which we are not (I am still in university and my boyfriend just got a job after 1 year of graduating from university). Then we ordered one Rosca Ibérica for the both of us instead of two dishes, the young waiter let out a dramatic, sad sigh while he wrote down our order. He went to go talk quietly to his coworker, probably had nothing to do with us. Then this coworker brought over our bottle and opened it and then corked it. Yes he corked it. And then left without a word. Ive been in Spain for 7 days at that point and not one waiter had done that during our stay. Obviously never seen that in the U.S. either but I 'll move on. The Rosca Ibérica we had was actually delicious and I recommend it. But there are SO many lovely restaurants in Madrid that you dont have to put up with this all we want is your money treatment as a tourist. Then we asked for the check, and when he brought it my boyfriend and I were shocked when there was an extra bread charge for €3. I told the waiter we didn 't ask for the bread, thinking he would say oh sorry I will take it off , he said yes, we always charge for bread. And asked why we were charged €3 for it. And he said that my boyfriend and I took bites... now I 'm 23 years old and I 've never actually gotten mad at a waiter before, I had never even seen my parents get mad at waiters, but wow I was so surprised he didn 't offer to take off the unjust charge. Then I outright asked him to take off the charge. And he said he would not because my boyfriend and I ate the bread 2 bites. I was visibly mad at this point and I asked him to pleasee take off the charge because we did not order the bread. He just told me No. My boyfriend and I figured the guy was a Venezuelan refugee and we paid a tip which I now feel was too nice but he obviously had some resentment towards tourists and probably did not have a good life at home. We want to warn other tourists against this place!!!! A restaurant employee would never have the confidence to do this without the backing of restaurant management culture wanting to take advantage of tourists."
