"I spent nearly £3.50 on a Pasty. Arrived home to find the bottom was burnt and then to top it off, after I removed the 1 inch tasteless thick crust from around the Pasty the inside also tasted of nothing but bland potato. This place...has gone backwards since the original owners of this place had to retire after being voted one of the top 3 in the Country."

When visiting the Lake District we always come here, the food is so reasonably priced and the baked goods are the best we have had.

Great fresh bread and sandwiches which we enjoyed in the town square. The bakery is in a road next to other shops which have that local feel.

we have set up here to see what they do, ended up with a quiche, 2 cakes, a pasty and some cookies. all fantastic. steak and nierenkuchen were the best.

A very nice, friendly place with great bread and reasonable prices. We enjoyed very much to be there because the lady serving us was helpful, friendly and patient.

Opening times aren’t as listed on TripAdvisor! It actually closes at 2pm, so we weren’t able to go there. This is not a comment on their food; just a warning for other travellers!

after a few disappointing years build the bakery and their team their call again. better opening times, new products and helpful staff, what they want more and their local business!

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
