I’ve noticed this restaurant many times, but today was my first visit. It was quite quiet, likely due to the end of the bank holiday, but the food was fantastic and the service was excellent. I highly recommend it!

went there Friday night ...very very impressed ....had a great rib-eye on the stone and missus had sirloin ...both fantastic ...staff were brilliant and extremely helpful ...and Tom our waiter was superb ...10 out of 10

"This was my first visit to the Bistro and I was glad I went in. My choice of food was well cooked and a reasonable cost. However, a group of more elderly ladies were dining at the same time and the staff did all they could to ensure their food was what they wanted and met their different tastes. "We were in Clacton for the weekend and found this place via Tripadvisor. The reviews weren't wrong. We were struggling to choose because the choices looked so good so we decided to go for the 3-course set menu. It began with a beuatifully presented selection of Thai starters, of which the chicken skewer was the star, but it's probably the best prawn toast I've had. The mains were chicken, beef and vegetables with superbly cooked jasmine rice. Then a very nice ice cream for dessert. Lovely service too, very friendly. Under £35 a head including drinks. It was quite busy and there was a steady stream of takeaway orders being picked up too. I'm not surprised."

"We had been to Franco's many times before and loved it, both under the original ownership and the new. However, it seems that it has changed hands yet again and not for the good I'm afraid. Although, judging by the November reviews maybe it is back on track again. I also note that late September/early reviews are similar to ours, which was very poor. In fact we left before the food arrived, mainly due to the extremely poor level of service we received with our drinks. We were out to celebrate my wife's birthday and to start the evening, the four of us all ordered double Gin Tonic's. However, it took 40 minutes for the drinks to arrive. And if if we thought the time taken to bring the drinks was bad, then you can imagine our disappointment when one of the waitresses brought four large dirty glasses with what looked like water in them. No ice, no lemon, and the mixers already poured in the glass, so no way to judge what level of gin we had received. When we asked about the ice and lemon they looked at us in astonishment. We assumed that they had none of neither, otherwise why bring drinks without the basics? It was like they had never worked in a bar/restaurant before and had just wandered in off the street. To make matters worse, they then arrived later with a glass of lemons and a glass of ice. By this stage we could see the evening descending into chaos and we decided to leave. No apology from the staff or questions, they just allowed us to leave and got on with their business. Very off-putting. We decided to try Killocks, which was surprisingly good. Unfortunately, that's another restaurant off the go-to list."

"The Beach Haven is a wonderful place. The food is limited at the moment due to Covid but they have a wide variety of delicious sandwiches and rolls, lovely cakes and ice cream, and tea, coffee etc. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It is also situated at the best beach in the area. My favourite place to be. They also have plenty of books, so you can enjoy a cuppa and take in the glorious view while relaxing with a book. Thank you for all your hard work and always serving with a smile during the difficult times. A cup of tea at the Beach Haven will lift your spirits and make the world seem almost normal. Lots of napkins too!"

"Having read the reviews and having been recommended by two locals we were excited about the prospect of our visit. Sadly the event was disappointing. The food was far too overheated and by that, I don 't mean the temperature I mean the spices. My Pad Ta Krai (advertised as Medium) was smothered in strong soy and most unpleasant...it was far too strong and my wife 's Mee Go Leng was similarly far too heavy with curry. It was also supposedly 'Medium '. So readers if you don 't want your mouth burned don 't eat here. By the way its cash only NO CREDIT CARDS"
