"I had a fantastic experience at Big Jessie's restaurant, not only did I enjoy a delicious dinner but I also received invaluable help from Alistair with a car problem. After returning from Gigha on the ferry, our car wouldn't start due to what I believed to be an electrical issue. The AA couldn't come out due to the remote location of Tayinloan and we were stranded as our campsite was a distance away. Thankfully, Alistair, the owner, came to our rescue with jump leads and extensive car knowledge. Thanks to him, our short break was saved. I highly recommend trying the fish and chips with all the trimmings at Big Jessie's."

The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the fish and chips were excellent with generous portions. This restaurant is a hidden gem on the peninsula, especially since there are very few food options outside of Campbeltown.

Had time to spare before the ferry to Gigha so popped in here for a coffee. Sat outside in the sun and had a lovely latte but an amazing freshly baked fruit scone with butter and jam. Would return again and again just for the scones......delish :

We were welcomed on arrival and looked after very well. I have three kids so lunching out can be daunting but we were made to feel welcome. Soup was delicious and recommend the fish and chips. Great wee find if you are in the area and want a friendly meal

We had been over on the Isle of Gigha and decided to have a quick lunch when we got back. Sitting outside on the deck under an umbrella with a beautiful view the toastier we ordered hit the spot, very tasty. Then coffee and a cake, lovely coffee. A very pleasant lunch Voir le carte

Stopped here for drinks and a bite to eat before taking the ferry to Gigha. The beer garden overlooks the beach and on a sunny day like the day we visited it would’ve been easy to miss the ferry. The food was good and reasonably priced while the staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a lovely lunch at Big Jessie’s tearoom and got some cake to takeaway. Food was delicious. Would highly recommend if you are in the area. It is pretty small and with the COVID-19 restrictions it’s best to book to ensure you are not disappointed but you can get food via takeaway also. Voir le carte

This cafe is conveniently located for passengers waiting for the Gigha ferry. You can park your car in line and keep an eye out for the ferry from the cafe's windows. Since we had just missed a sailing, we decided to go inside and enjoy a coffee and a scone while we waited. The scones were warm and incredibly fresh, although a bit crumbly. They were delicious. The only minor drawback was the presence of a noisy dog belonging to another customer which became bothersome after a while.

Located immediately before the Gigha ferry pier is where you'll find this charming little café with both in and outdoor seating. They offer a very good selection of homemade cakes, sandwiches, assorted lighter cooked meals and a few more substantial platefuls. I went for the haddock and chips which was faultless. My companions were equally delighted by their scampi and chips and chicken goujons with a salad. The service was very friendly and efficient and the whole place was spotlessly clean. I will be back real soon. Very highly recommended.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
