"I'm trying to get to the newly introduced short criticism without star rating. I haven't visited the restaurant Balthasar himself yet, but a number of my good friends have already been there and have made their opinions and experiences in discussions about restaurant visits. In 1996, the star chef Elmar Simon opened his restaurant Balthasar in Paderborn and in 1998 he received a Michelin star for his outstanding cuisine. He is back in 2015. Some connoisseurs say he's on the best way to the second star. In the Gault Millau it has 17 points. Several good acquaintances of me have been there in the last few months and have been thrilled. Finest regional ingredients with seasonal focuses, creative surprises, wonderful amuse geules, a great space concept, the noble feel-good atmosphere, great craftsmanship, these were just a few points that were particularly highlighted. Two were here for the first time, and their sleepers were quickly dismantled by the very warm welcome and the competent, insurgent care throughout the evening. Some were also surprised that Elmar Simon, in his menus, also incorporated German “Classics” creatively in his own way: Döner Kebab, Currywurst, Potato Salad, Stielmus, either as a supplement or amuse. Here are some current prices: 4-course menu (in the evening) from 69 €, vegetarian 5-course menu 65 €, 4-course lunch menu 56 € An idea by Elmar Simon can especially fascinate: For 10 years, on the eve of the great Libori Churches in Paderborn, he has served a menu in the 36 gondolas of the giant wheel under the motto “Himmlisch speisen über den Dächern von Paderborn”. Simon fans travel from all over Germany for three hours and enjoy a delicious menu with wine tasting in the slowly rotating giant wheel, which is illuminated by 20,000 lights. You have to sign up to four for a gondola. This event is always booked. I know one thing for sure: It will be time for me or for the foreseeable time to enjoy getting to know Elmar Simon’s philosophy “lecker und schlotzig”, especially when the Mediterranean terrace is open."

Paderborn, un mélange de charme historique et de vie moderne, est connue pour sa cuisine westphalienne, avec des plats comme le pain pumpernickel et les saucisses traditionnelles.
