Afternoon Tea At Parker's Tavern

Very poor service and over priced, we left disappointed

A wonderful classic venue to spend a delightful afternoon. The atmosphere is very comfortable, the portions are generous, and the service is impeccable.

The food was amazing though we had to often get the staff's attention to serve us. We didn't get our take-home gingerbread though which was a shame. We only realised after we left.

Tom and I had a lovely afternoon at the University Arms, following several recommendations. The staff was efficient, courteous, and professional. The food was delicious, arrived quickly, and met our expectations perfectly.

Disappointed to be contacted 3 days before to say the Winnie the Poo Afternoon Tea we had booked was no longer being served and was being replaced with the Festive Afternoon Tea. Was not offered water, even though glasses on the table. Likewise was not offered choice of tea. The service was extremely slow, people arriving after us being served before us. However, the food was very nice.

Lovely setting but could have done with a slightly bigger table as excess bits had to be put on the floor! Really lovely afternoon tea if a little over priced. What lets this down is the 13% gratuity charge where the service was poor, we had to repeatedly track down and ask the staff member for more tea, extra jam, the bill etc which makes the non optional gratuity charge a bit much, I have no problem tipping good service but when the service is lacking then it doesn’t sit well! This seems to be a common theme in reviews which is a shame as it took the edge of a lovely Birthday treat. I would recommend but with a warning about the service!

The staff at this restaurant are always incredibly attentive and polite, which truly makes a difference in the experience. However, there were a couple of negatives. The white bread had been somewhat mishandled, and initially, there wasn't enough food served. Considering that customers pay £40 each, plus drinks, for afternoon tea and receive only three tiny sandwiches along with less than two whole rounds of bread, it's essential to ask for more right away. Unfortunately, we then had to wait another 20 minutes, which felt quite long, especially since we were the first customers there. It seemed like the staff was overwhelmed, even though there were only two people visible serving at the time...
