"I was gifted a camper van rental by my sons for my birthday. I’ve never driven one before, so I didn’t want to venture too far from home on my first trip. After researching all available sites for this weekend, I came across this...place. I brought a friend with me and my two dogs and we were welcomed onto the site and asked if we wanted to be near to the facilities. Very grateful for that! We chatted for a while and he even helped us hook up to the electric. Excellent start to the trip and very kind of R to help us. We sat in the sun for the afternoon and made our way into the pub for dinner later, (with the dogs another reason why I picked this place, as they were also very welcome). I ordered the fish and my friend had a burger. Both meals were very generous and very tasty. H and the other waiters who served us were great and very attentive. We left very satisfied that night. We also ate here on Saturday night and this time I had the salad with chicken. Delicious! I just can’t express the tastiness of their food, enough! Our waitress, A, was very polite and professional and we had a lovely conversation with her at the end of the night. My friend wanted us to have the Sunday roast before we left, so she booked us in and again, wow! She couldn’t decide between the beef and the chicken, so she went for the combo, which had both!! Not for the faint-hearted, I tell you!! What a meal! I chose the nut roast which was the best one I’ve ever eaten. The vegetables that come with it are also very tasty. The Yorkshire’s are nearly as big as the plate and were incredible! I can honestly say, Ive never eaten so many plates of delicious dishes as I did this weekend! We spoke to several of the staff during this weekend and found everyone to be amicable, friendly, hard-working and willing to give good service. I can not fault them. Our stay on camp was enhanced by the young family who were staying across the grass and we had so much hilarity with their small children as they kept asking to see the dogs. They were great. Other campers were very friendly and I enjoyed the camaraderie from them, even if it was just with a good morning wave and hello. I have no hesitation in recommending either the campsite or the pub, or indeed both together, to anyone! I would like to thank every member of staff for the welcome and professionalism we experienced and we will soon be planning for our next visit! Thank you. x"

"Good traditional drinking pub and I have nothing against the staff as they were relatively helpful and friendly. At times it was difficult to tell if the chap was trying to be funny or just had a bit of an attitude usually I don't have a problem discerning one from the other though, but giving the benefit of the doubt here. But...food here is not up to par with any other pub I've eaten in for 10 years, actually embarrassingly so. Fish and chips was literally a fillet from Iceland, chips were luke warm and in short supply apparently. Any testimony that the fish wasn't a frozen fillet would very likely be a lie. 4 dishes were tried and all really disappointing, so not an isolated incident. Burger was very low quality for £15 and featured ends of the tomato. We didn't say anything because it was clear any alternative offering wasn't going to be any good either and we were hungry. Whilst prices are maybe about £2 3 less than other pubs per dish, this is still terrible value for money because the quality is so poor. Not expecting gourmet food, but at least home cooked and not microwaved/ovened supermarket frozen food. My suggestion would be to cut the menu down by 80% and offer a few solid options that could well be prepared in advance and reheated. Or just stop doing food if the volumes are so low that it's uneconomical to offer anything but frozen stuff. I write this review with respect, and because I really wish I could have read a similar one before coming to this pub for food. Thanks and good luck."

"The staff were happy to accommodate our large group consisting of people, outside and away from other diners. We were seated promptly and a waitress took our drinks order. We were also given menus. The drinks arrived and some of the glasses had bright red lipstick marks on them. Yuk. We politely asked for some replacements. At this point we were still deciding what food to order. When we were ready the conversations went something like: Us:”I’d like a Hawaiian pizza please”. Waitress: “oh no, there’s no pizza today because the pizza chef isn’t here”. Us: “oh okay, why didn’t this get mentioned minutes ago when you gave us the menu?” Waitress: shrugs. All the teenagers had to choose another option. Us:”I’d like the sea bass please”. Waitress: “oh, there’s no sea bass” etc etc. While we totally understand there are staffing issues and supply issues in the food business at present but couldn’t see why they didn’t tell us on arrival or at least when the menus were handed out? The food arrived and it was pretty good. One of our group nearly got her risotto in her lap as a young waitress was only on her second shift. I’d only ever heard good things about this pub but based on this experience none of us are keen to return. The restaurant industry is on its knees and while I’m totally sympathetic, they need to be more organised and ensure the staff are briefed and more dynamic."
