"I have very mixed feelings about my experience here. Firstly it was a Saturday evening and the staff were very busy but managed to get us a table within 5 minutes. They did well to serve us pretty quickly. My reasons for the low star rating are that the side salads are pretty expensive costing the same as a pizza. Considering we ordered two pizzas and one salad £35 including a 10% tip could be considered a lot. The second thing is my pizza had pieces of chorizo on it and whilst it was delicious the chorizo was stingy and there was on average 1.5 pieces per slice. I do prefer the pizza and the atmosphere was lovely but at this price point Pizza Hut becomes a slightly cheaper rival. We also found the specials board a bit confusing."

"I literally couldn't wait to get my phone back from repair to leave this review. The service was fantastic, we were welcomed and seated even though we were a few minutes and the kitchen was basically closing and felt so bad as we kept them in longer than they should have been there. Everything was incredible! But, I have to say my dessert was THE BEST dessert I had. It was a soufflé and I still have an after taste for it. Honestly amazing food and a fantastic venue/service. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back."

"I have visited this restaurant several times for pre-theatre lunch, and my companions and I have always enjoyed our meals. The staff is friendly, and the owner, who is also the chef, makes a point of interacting with customers, which is a nice touch. However, I have noticed some inconsistency with portion sizes. The risotto dish seemed like a starter portion, while the spaghetti carbonara was very generous. Desserts priced at £11 each seem a bit steep for a lunchtime menu, and I believe lowering the prices could attract more customers. Some reviewers have criticized the included service charge, but I believe it is fair as it is clearly labeled as optional on the bill. In our restaurant culture, not leaving a tip, unless the service was very poor, should not be considered."

"Nice and airy, so it is really cool in here. There are lots of savory and sweet choices. The maple syrup and bacon was amazing. Staff very polite. I wish there was an option for a smaller stack and a lower price as I found it hard to est all mine. Also having syrup bottles on the table to pour on extra if you need any. Extra syrup packets cost over 2 pounds which is really expensive. Not saying all toppings should be provided for free but it is kind of odd not to do it with syrup which is known to go with pancakes. Overall a very nice place to eat."

"Visited this restaurant for a business lunch having been here previously we had high expectations and were not disappointed. It is situated opposite the Town Quay and easy to walk to as there is little parking nearby. Excellent menu choices backed up with attentive service. We had some garlic bread whilst we made our menu choices. For starters we had Burrata Pugliese, Calamari and prosciutto E melon. All very good. Main courses we selected Tortelloni alla Norma a vegetarian pasta with aubergine and the rest of our party chose Pollo Bergamasco a chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto with spinach Tallegio cheese and came with dauphinois potatoes. Everything was really lovely, we were too full for pudding but had coffee. It is high end on price but the service, atmosphere and quality of food make it a worthwhile place to visit. A great place for a special treat or celebration. Washrooms were very smart with individual towels to dry your hands."

"We visited here while staying nearby the night before boarding a cruise. We’ve seen this building many times when here but never really considered it. However seeing the reviews on here we booked. Firstly I have to mention the staff. Lots of them and all so friendly and efficient. The menu choices are varied from simple curries to more elaborate dishes. My other half is vegetarian and he had plenty of options. He had a paneer curry as a side portion to start. This was delicious. A good sized portion, beautiful flavours and lots of paneer. I had Onion Bhaji. There were three large ones on the plate, light, crisp and probably the nicest Bhaji Ive had. Both starters had a fresh salad on the side. I had the Chilli Chicken for main and he had the aubergine and coconut curry. Both dishes were excellent. Both tasted unique with nicely balanced spicing. I avoided the whole chilli’s in mine and really enjoyed it. We shared a mushroom pilau and a peshwari naan, the latter was my other half’s highlight of the meal. We had some poppadoms as appetisers which were light and non greasy and came with free accompaniments which was nice. It was hard to resist filling up on these. Overall we agreed it was probably one of the best Indian meals we’ve had and will definitely be back."

"My girlfriend and I were having a chilled Sunday as she was out late the night before, while thinking of some thing to do as we didn't want to waste the nice weather or the day. I bought it would be nice to to come to Flatwhites as we have been here before. I ordered a mocha and my girlfriend a hot chocolate they were brewed perfectly better than any commercial coffee shop i.e. Costa/Starbucks, and we also ordered a black pudding scotch egg and a jalapeño sausage roll and these are made to perfection with just the right amount of every thing, and what I like is that when brought to the table it's not just a sausage roll or scotch egg on a plate but it comes with a small amount of side salad and coleslaw and two small ramekins of whole mustard and pikilili (pardon the spelling) which compliments the food amazingly I would 100% recommend to any one who wants a light lunch and coffee and a nice browse at some incredible vintage stalls that it shares the warehouse with"

"Beautiful Hotel set in wonderful gardens superbly finished to a high standard, the welcome was polite and efficient. We had to check in early and the receptionist looked after us and stored our bags until we returned in the evening.The room (307) clean airy and light and was well appointed with a large kitchen with a good selection of utensils , a fridge , washing machine and kettle with endless tea and coffee.The bed was comfortable large double with crisp clean bedding fabulous pillows and a good light with an addition socket to charge the phone etc .The bathroom was large clean and plenty of towels for us both . one point was the shower head connection was leaking water. Not many toiletries but had hand soap and shampoo (ok quality)We had the opportunity to have breakfast in the morning, There was a wait but we were informed and keep in the loop, so no complaints there , we found a table outside and with the fabulous weather and coffee orange juice and water we we set our selves down for a good morning. The breakfast was excellent, We had Eggs Benedict and a full English breakfast cooked to perfection and generous too ! The coffee was of a high standard and service was great.We checked out which was good and complimented some of your colleagues on the way out.This is a gem of a hotel near Southampton and will only get better, wonderful staff and clean tidy hotel... we'll have no problem in recommending this hotel."

"Recommended by friends but shocked we didn 't know it was there, really had a great lunch at a fair price given the quality of the pie, mash, mushy peas gravy. On entering we were greeted by a smiling young lady 'Hannah ' who was as laid back cool as the venue itself immensely competent. Just can 't fault the place can 't fault good old Pie Mash but they do have a few edgy choices if more adventurous than my beef filled pie. Couldn 't of wanted for a better lunch experience thank you to all staff as of course there were others we didn 't see."

"I been coming to Sidewalk for two years and I'm embarrassed to say I never thought to leave a review! I only ever come for coffee but all of the food I see coming out looks and smells lovely. I also see a lot of cleared plates! The one thing I have eaten here (a few times) is the lemon honey cake. I have this when I am feeling in need of a treat. If you have never had it, give it a try... The honey cake is served in triangles and consists of several very fine layers of sponge sandwiched together with a kind of frosting. The cake is dusted with what tastes like caramel biscuit crumbs. When you put your fork in the cake, you see it is dense but somehow also light. It is sweet in a way that warms the soul. It is not overly sugary spicy almost. A perfect accompaniment to the delicious coffee!! So, the coffee. I am hard pressed to find another coffee in Southampton which fulfils my needs. I am a MASSIVE lover of coffee. I have mentioned this in a previous review for another coffee shop (which I also love but for different reasons). I drink my coffee black and without any faff. The coffee here is incredible and very reasonably priced. If you like your coffee dark, aromatic and full bodied, you won't be disappointed. It has almost a burnt caramel undertone which I think puts it in a different league. The final thing I want to say is the most important (maybe I should have done this round the other way). The place is impeccably clean, tidy and well run. The people are friendly and courteous, and I always have a little chat when I am ordering my coffee. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is very kind. This is one of my favourite places to come and work, read a book or just stare into space and people watch. So I wanted to say thank you to everyone at Sidewalk"

"It was alright food but sadly not great food. The curry spices had a good balance but didn’t delight and the non meat portions were on the generous side especially the rice. The grilled peshwari bread was the biggest taste disappointment as it tasted only sugary but then it was only £3. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the seating was ok; the decor is a bit 1970’s. I had a paneer main dish, which was fine but honestly, and I do keep referencing the fact that M&S curries are so much better flavoured and generously portioned. My wife had tandoor chicken shashlik main there was no tandoor used in cooking our food here) so the flavour was just sort of alright if you want to be kind when it could have been great. All the food arrived really piping hot. This was a first for us, in that where we come from, if one orders from the tandoori part of the main menu a curry sauce comes with the order but here it was a separate charge. The poppadoms too were extra when again we usually get them complimentary. The bill was £55 for two curry mains, a pilau rice, a way overcooked potato and cauliflower side, sweet nan, a pint of beer £5) and a 175ml glass of rosé. We added a tip ourselves. There were only two other diners at 7pm on a Thursday night. I doubt we’ll return not because it was bad but because it’s just not good enough. Here’s the thing, as eat out prices are rising folks who do dine out now rightly expect a full flavour darn good dine experience not oh well that was just ok. Summing up, although it’s a restaurant the food seemed more like what you’d cook at home as an amateur working from no skill or knowledge f Asian cooking or how to use spices to impress guests and from the cheapest ingredients you could find from an average supermarket."

"I visit today with a very elderly lady who was on her first outing after being seriously ill in hospital and having to move into a care home, the first time she had been out in over 2 months, the kitchen had closed which would have resulted in me having to get her back into the car and out again somewhere else (no mean feat) had the chef Ryan? And the chap behind the bar (sorry didn’t get his name) not stepped up and offered to still make us some baguettes for lunch, words can’t describe how this act of kindness impacted on our day, I did tell them before I left but I thought it nice to inform the management too via this platform thank you again"

"Situated in Bedford place this place is both vibrant and friendly. Upon arrival Georgina greeted me and sat me down, after this I was served by the delightful Mya. For my meal I had the bacon and brie wrap with salad and chips. The wrap was warm and tasty, they did not hold back either on the bacon and brie which is good. The chips were triple cooked, they were hot again and tasted lovely. To accompany this I had a pint of cider. As I was there the tables were starting to fill up and the atmosphere was good, everyone enjoying themselves. The bill only came to £13-60 which I thought was excellent value. Again with all independent places it is the staff that make the place, and the Smugglers didn't disappoint. Both Georgina and Mya were friendly, accommodating and both worked with a smile Recommended"

"We visited for lunch on a Friday (I am fairly sure that this restaurant does not open for lunch Monday through Thursday. I started with an excellent Seekh kebab, cooked in the tandoori plenty of flavour. I continued with Jumbo Prawn Jalfrezi. This contained three huge prawns tandoor cooked in the shell. They tasted great. The curry was two chilli hot, as advertised,with very interesting spicing. When we asked if the chef was Indian or Bangladeshi, the reply was that they had one of each! I understand that 90% of England 's 'Indian ' restaurants serve Bangladeshi dishes. I find the spicing more exciting in true Indian restaurants (often called Nepalese). Anyway, both dishes were great, as was the cold Cobra lager. My friend chose a lamb dish, on the bone and served upright with the protruding main bone at the top. This must be good because he chooses it every time!"

"Not very often I’m giving reviews on restaurants but this for me was unfortunately huge disappointment, We arrived yesterday after 4pm was quite empty We ordered the food and for some reason we were waiting nearly 40min to get the food. Not gonna say anything bad about the food I would say it was good I had chicken devolie and my son and my Miss had gulash and potato pancake was quite average. The most annoying was I get charge 12.5% service charge where the is not much of a service I needed to pick up menu myself and order at the bar. Also is mentioned in the menue that the service charge is applied for 4+ servings and was only 3 of us. I paid about £67 for 3 of us with 2 soft drink and 1 beer. Sorry to say that but I was very disappointed over all experience for that kind of money."

"We've been a few times and our experience has always been good. It's located opposite another popular dessert parlour, but we liked this place because it's a bit quieter. "After a long day of traveling, we were looking for a quick meal and decided to stop by this restaurant for an early dinner. It was quiet when we arrived, and we ordered a bottle of rose, a vodka and lemonade, and a coke. Unfortunately, they only got the coke right. They brought out a bottle of white wine instead of vodka, but we didn't mind too much. While my food was delicious, some in our group mentioned that their pizza was soggy. Despite being the only customers in the restaurant, we felt rushed, which may have contributed to the soggy pizza. We could hear the chefs busy in the kitchen, probably preparing for the evening ahead. We dined at around 6pm and, unfortunately, I don't think I would come back here as my meal was the only thing that was satisfactory."

"We visited on the 27th December for a late lunch, our party was 5 adults and a 7 year old. We were sat in a booth- a bit of a tight squeeze and did result in some kind of elbow jousting game that we could have done without. We ordered our drinks (a must try is the strawberry and mint margarita which did take a while to arrive; this was an ongoing issue and most probably down to the fact that their very competent bar man was making drinks for the whole restaurant with 4-5 servers sending through orders all the time. Our food was amazing, we ordered a platter for 2- this is well worth the price tag and lets you try many different dishes without the headache of trying to choose! Our son had a burger from the kids menu which he devoured (all parents reading this will be well aware of how rare this can be . We had no room for pudding so cannot comment on these. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for their food and drinks but would suggest to the management that they do a bit more training with their FOH staff to tighten up their service to avoid communication issues and a feeling of neglect."
