"I was in Derbyshire visiting a friend for the weekend and we decided to have a Sunday lunch here, which is a place neither of us had ever been to. I didn’t realise it was Mother’s Day so when I popped in on Saturday to ask if they had any tables available I wasn’t surprised when I was told that they were fully booked. However, Abby (the lady I spoke to said she would have a look at their bookings, and despite their busy enough lunchtime session ahead, she was able to find a table for my friend and then showed me where it was asking me if it was OK, which was great! I also found her to be very polite, friendly and approachable and I felt immediately at ease in her presence. On our arrival the next day I began mentioning our booking to a colleague of hers who greeted us on entry. Abby, who was beside him but was busy on the phone with a different query, let him know how many of us there were and where we were sitting by signalling to him our table, acknowledging my thanks with a nod and effortlessly continued with the call she was dealing with. I ordered some drinks from the bar, collected our cutlery, serviettes and some mustard from a self-serving station and noticed that a barman saw that my hands were full and then bought our drinks over to the table as I got there – nice touch, man… Thanks! Our meals came promptly and both tasted delicious. I had added the ‘Go Large Deal’ to my meal order (for just £2 extra and the serving was huge. I struggled to finish it and felt 5kg heavier afterwards, and I didn’t feel hungry again until about 10am the next day! Ashleigh brought our meals out and I found her to also be equally and effortlessly as efficient, polite, attentive and friendly as Abby. Throughout the meal my friend and I had a couple of moments to briefly share a little time in passing with each of them as they asked if we needed more drinks or if we were satisfied with our food and during these moments we had a bit of banter and witty repartee that felt natural and fun to be part of. Overall, I found the conduct of both of them to be perfect and excellent examples of displaying good ‘Guest Relations’ – Having this skill is such a necessary ability for all staff of the Hospitality trade to be well versed in as it is something that no machine can achieve despite its programming to be merely efficient or competent. Although my review particularly concerns the above mentioned ‘Dynamic Duo’ (you know who you are! I also give a Big Shout out to the other staff who I noticed were going about their business with like-minded cheer and resolve even when the situation just calls for clearing and cleaning tables filled with all the paraphernalia left behind after each sitting or picking up broken glasses and dropped cutlery on the floor… Well done to you all. Keep at it and keep shining. Jay."

"We contacted the Saw Grinders Union to host our wedding reception, but both the service and communication were absolutely awful. When we first spoke to and contacted SGU (this was initially in person and then via email to follow up) we enquired about hiring the whole venue, this was confirmed via email in October 2024 (image attached) and the deposit was paid for the price quoted to us by the manager we spoke to. It wasn 't until we visited in March 2025 to refresh our memory on the venue for decorations that we spoke to another manager, who happened to mention that the booking was for just one room, the snug room with the large sofa in. They had also changed catering provider and food menu during this time, but didn 't think to tell us. To his credit he manager we spoke to in person in March (I 'm very sorry we didn 't make a note of your name) did offer to provide the originally agreed food menu, he was also very apologetic and promised they would try to make this up to us by offering multiple things for free and even trying to move the booking in the other half of the venue if they could, but the email we received following up after (which very clearly wasn 't from the manager we had just spoken to) was very abrupt and didn 't take any ownership for the confusion, nor even apologise for their mistake. The booking was for 50 people, there 's no way that 50 people would have comfortably fit in just the snug/workshop room and a portion of the courtyard while also having space for tables and seats, a space to serve food, and a dj along with somewhere to dance. The offer of someone to serve drinks in our half also begs the question of what we would have done otherwise, was the original plan for everyone at our event to order drinks at the main bar and interrupt the other booking walking across each time? The same goes for using the toilet, there only seems to be one toilet section so you 're going to have people from another booking coming across to use it. The venue itself does look lovely, and the food we tried was very nice I have to say, but the incredibly poor communication between managers and to us was just ss so so bad, and we even had to chase up our refund multiple times which took nearly two months. We asked for the refund on the 19th March, you told us it would be received on the 21st April but this date was missed with your response stating it had been mixed up with another payment There was another refund request with two different dates, which we mixed up apologies for this. The refund was finally received on Sunday, the 11th May at just after midnight, less than a month before we got married and needed to pay for another venue. Fortunately we found another venue and had a lovely time, but not to receive a single apology from SGU about the mistake with our booking, and to also have to chase up our refund multiple times was not what we needed at such a stressful time, which they created for us. "It 's located a few miles from Sheffield City centre in the suburb of Nether Green on the corner of four-way junction. From the outside, it doesn 't look that big. We didn 't realise the restaurant was upstairs. On arrival,we were very warmly greeted as though we were old friends. Showing us to our table at the chefs bench,we felt really honoured. As the Michelin Guide says for the full experience, book these seats. The restaurant is smallish and very cosy. You forget that you are actually fine dining in Sheffield. We 'd chosen the tasting menu, like you do. To get things started,we ordered one of their own unique Lagers by Little Mesters Brewing . The meal begins with three taster snacks, including a delicious chawanmushi. Followed by their black treacle bread hendo 's butter. Up next follows a procession of delightful dishes. Starting with the Chalk stream trout tart. Then, you are given a little scroll explaining how the dish inspired the chef. Cauli cheese, not like Grandma B 's. The fish course was a lovely dish of Cornish Cod,trout roe, seaweed leek. The last of the savoury courses was a very tender, Creedy Carver Duck that cut like butter. There were two very pretty and tasty desserts of Yorkshire Rhubarb and the other 'Jaffa cake ' with a nice gooey centre. To finish the meal were a couple of sweet treats. The whole evening flowed seamlessly, from the front of house to the chefs in the kitchen it was an absolutely pleasurable night."
