"When we visited previously around a year ago the food was basic, but very reasonably priced and suited the kids just fine. Today was a total disappointment. You are made to pay upon ordering, which saves time sitting around waiting for the bill after you’ve eaten, but can become problematic when they have run out of a majority of those things you’ve ordered. I ordered a main and drink for me and my two sons so 6 items …my two first choice main courses were unavailable and my youngest son’s first 2 drink choices were sold out. This was 1:00pm on a Sunday and again we’d already paid. My alternative main was £2 cheaper than what I paid for and there was no offer of a refund or complimentary drink etc. When the food did arrive, it was disappointing my eldest son’s burger, for example, was a pathetic, irregular mass of meat that was certainly not worth the £5 price tag the pic actually makes it look better! . The staff were apologetic enough for the availability issues, but the wait for food was far too long for what we ordered the repeated excuse was that they were “so busy”, however, there were probably more staff than customers. All in all, a big disappointment given £30 for 3 lunches and far less value for money than say the Wetherspoon’s across the road. You don’t expect miracles in this price range, but it should have been a far higher standard."

"Terrible service from all but one member of staff at the tavern today. A group of us arrived with our children after booking a table for 8, we were greeted well and led to a table, my friend was told to park her buggy close by as no one else was booked in to sit near us so we had space, great! More friends decided to join us last minute which we didn’t think would be an issue given the entire restaurants was empty bar one other table. Another women walked over and was beyond rude and abrupt, stating there was no room for the extra 2 adults and 2 children completely put out by another pram? “These tables are all booked out”… eventually it was okay and the setting was “ re-organised and bookings moved” we stayed for food which was regrettable as we all felt very unwelcome. The entire time we were there not one person entered to eat. Food wasn’t great and children’s menu poor to be honest but the service made it even worse. On finishing a friend asked at the bar to pay for what she had eaten and drank.. “ what you are all splitting the bill, great I don’t have patience for this” and walked off for another member of staff to complete the transaction. As regular visitors as we are local to the area visiting the tavern and play park as well as attending several of the “family events” recently ran through the park I can’t express how disappointed I am. This is meant to be a family friendly place and I will not be returning. Shocking service and customer service- no wonder it’s dead"
