"After some stressful and challenging days, it was my day off, finally. I decided to treat myself by going on my own for a proper meal. I put on my airy summer dress and got out of the house without makeup or having a specific destination I like to live dangerously, I know. The weather took me mentally back at home, Greece. Walking alongside riverside with the sun showering my now milk white skin (no tan for greek girls in the UK), I was getting reminded once again, how rich and beautiful this city 's architecture is. Wondering what restaurant to pick for my special day, I realized I would fancy some nice and well made burrito, so, as every self respected consumer I opened my google maps, typed burrito and filtered my list to the top rated ones. Jive was just 5 minutes away, which was quite convenient for my hungry belly. I had passed 1 million times from their door but never noticed it. You need to be looking for their floor standing sign. Walked up the stairs and ended up in an extremely atmospheric well lit room, with vintagely ruined plaster, exposed subflooring and industrial furniture. The windows were wide open, welcoming every bit of the summer weather and revealing an inspiring angle of everything that was going on outside, in the heart of Norwich, the fine city. The tables are few, for which I 'm not complaining about. After all I 'm getting more and more anti socially british as the time goes by. You don 't know me but I 'm one of those individuals who love to sit in crowded places and watch the strangers around them guessing their stories based on details. Regarding people enjoying the Jive food there, there was a big group of friends, an old couple, a new couple (probably on one of their first dates) and two men probably on an unofficial business meeting. The food was just amazing. Prices are not the best but then again, it was expected considering the position and the dine in feature. Loved every aspect of my visit. Honorable mention? The polite and helpful service."

"Update: I have been advised that the balcony is accessible via a lift, although I did not see it nor was informed of the option so if you fancy eating on it then I suggest you ask the staff First things first; The downstairs of the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but be under no illusions of eating on the balcony. The accessible/baby changing toilet is located on the ground floor behind the kitchen and too the right, but isn't well designed. It has all the necessary components, but due to its dimensions could pose problems with manouvering larger electric chairs, the toilet roll holders are about head height and the floor level is about an inch higher than outside, so even though there is a quadrant strip between the two, be prepared or receive a sharp jolt. They do cater for food intolerances, and have a varied menu but unless South America food is your thing then you may be left with steak chips .... On the other hand my wife really enjoyed her meal and the staff where pleasant enough which is reflected in my rating. The cocktails are always 2 for 1, but they cost 40% more, so it's not really great value, although if you plan to end with an espresso I would recommend the deconstructed espresso Martini .... This is not a cheap place to eat, nor is it of the pile it high philosophy, but if you want something a little different then it could be worth a look."

"This used to be my favourite pub in Norwich back in the early 80’s when I used to visit a friend who was at UEA at the time. Not only because it was a forerunner for real ale back then, but also because visits were with a level of jeopardy as the landlord and his cronies didn’t like students. Well, first time back in the best part of 40 years and fortunately a lot more inclusive from my remembrances it looked like students were even working the bar , I thought it was still a thoroughly good pub. The front section houses the main bar that accommodates vertical drinking and then off this to the left is a collection of seating areas separated by exposed beams of some age with a fair few nooks and crannies to hide yourself away in. And it’s not until you get to the larger room at the back that it opens out into one large space. This section is dominated by large flat screens and surround sound for the sport and is where most people interested in the football position themselves. I think they also have live bands in this section. Back in the 80’s, as well as being dual named as it still is today it was also famous for having a double sided pub sign with an innocent looking gardener chap on the side as you walk up the hill, and then a sinister dark figure on the other side depicting the name the pub takes from the incident that took place in the pub in 1895. Sadly that seems to have disappeared and the pub is currently sign less from what I could see. One thing that is unchanged from my remembrances, and is probably enhanced is the collection of famous murderers that adorn all the walls and surfaces and quite a few I remember are still in situ, but now including many others such as a photo of Reg and Ronnie Cray, which is apt as they owned a house in nearby Attleborough during their reign of terror and Ronnie actually passed away in a hotel in Norwich, nor far from this pub. Another thing that seems unchanged is a focus on real ale and the bar supports 12 handpumps and 11 were on the go for my visit with nine ales and two ciders available. On the ale front seven were from East Anglia in the form of three from the nearby Wolf Brewery Murderers Ale, Silver Fox and Edith Cavell , Grain Brewery Chevallier 47 , Beccles Brewery Sky PA , Mr Winters Vanilla Latte Stout, and Adnams Ghost Ship. Then from further afield there was Parkway Brewing Co. Pirates Pet and Listers Springtime. I went for the Mr Winters Vanilla Latte Stout and very good it was too. I wanted to like this pub again, and I did, in spades…"
