"This is a lovely pub on the canal at Hest Bank. However a couple of niggles. We had a drink there last night. Good booze and reasonable prices. We decided to go back tonight and have a meal. We could not eat in the restaurant which was fine as we had our dog. We had to sit between the restaurant and the main part of the bar. There was a folk group singing there but when we arrived they took up most of the area. Their music was good and it would have bennice to listen to them but the piped music from the almost empty restaurant was so loud with a speaker just above our heads. My friend was getting really agitated as he had two competing styles of music paying in each ear. Why have a live band and play terrible music so loudly to almost no one. The steak and ale pie was OK drowned in a thick over salty sauce but I know this is how they eat in this area as I used to live here many years ago. My friend said his fish and chips were OK but could not recognise the fish. It did not say haddock or cod but for £14.50 you expect something decent. Instead it was pollock that dry tasteless fish that no self respecting restaurant would serve. You might be unlucky enough to get it in a cheap fish and chip shop for £8 or £9 quid. The two guys who were serving were welcoming and pleasant but it was a slightly disappointing experience. If you have good live music please don't drown it out with overloud garbage and if you are serving nasty cheap pollock for your fish and chips please put it on the menu so it can be avoided."

"Went to Aspect this evening for a drink with my husband. We decided to stay for a meal and both ordered pizzas. When they came, the waitress she said ‘pepperoni?’I said my husband has ordered salami and she said ‘yeah salami’. She then said ‘mushroom and summat!’ I had ordered mushroom, roasted peppers and rocket. Mushroom and ham wasn’t on the menu but the summat that the waitress was referring to was ham! She took the pizza back. No apologies. My husband had to ask her to take his away and bring it back when mine was ready so we could eat together. Whilst all this was happening, the background music was trance music. Totally inappropriate for the age of the clientele who were in there. My husband asked a waitress if there was some other background music. She asked the manager and he/she said they couldn’t turn the music off. We said that we didn’t ask for it to be turned off, we just asked if there was an alternative. At one point though, the music changed and it was great for 2 minutes and then it went back to trance music again! When we were going, a lovely waitress came to take our plates. We mentioned about the music and she said that she had changed the music only for the manager to change it back again. I said that he/she needs to look at the age of the people in the bistro as I would say the average age was about 50 to 60. A lady on the table behind, stood up and said to the waitress that the customer is definitely right! Really disappointed that the manager didn’t apologise for the issue with the pizza. Also disappointed that he/she didn’t acknowledge our comments about the music and totally dismissed everything that we had said. To be honest they never showed their face at all. The food was nice and one lovely waitress but some of the staff/management need to brush up on their customer service skills!"

"The food was delicious, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced! We made a reservation for a child's 4th birthday party at least 3 days in advance and provided our food orders from the main and set menu at the time of booking. We all arrived on time at 6:00pm, as it was the earliest everyone could make it. After waiting 30 minutes, we were told that they couldn't provide any of the desserts that we had pre-ordered from the set menu because they hadn't ordered the necessary ingredients. We were asked to choose from the main menu instead. We then waited for just under an hour, having to ask multiple times when the food would be ready as the children were hungry and it was past their bedtime. Finally, the food started to arrive, with a 10-minute gap between the first and last dish. They also brought out 5 children's meals instead of 4 and forgot about one of the adult meals, which had to be cooked last minute. We had to request for the table to be cleared and desserts to be served once we had finished, as they left our plates sitting for another 15 minutes after we were done with the first course. Eventually, the desserts were served, but there was a debate about the bill. They offered to reduce it by 10%, but were charging more for the desserts from the main menu. After further discussion, we agreed on a final amount and left. Overall, it was a complete disaster."
