"Tl:de- great view, bad everything else. Went there after seeing the beautiful building on my walk around town. Nevertheless, despite ordering a place in advance I couldn't enjoy the view as most tables aren't actually adjacent to the window. The staff was generally impolite, and...while they spoke in the proper manner (addressing me with sir etc their expressions and general attitude made me feel as if they were doing me a favor by serving me. I ordered the three course meal for with the addition for the shrimp main dish. I also ordered a bottle of water for totaling the dinner at eur per person. This would have been fine if the food was good, which it wasn't. For starters, I got the squid, rostbeef and salmon. The salmon wasn't fresh and the rostbeef untasty. I also dislike the squid, but I can't directly blame them for it as it was my first time eating squid and I just might dislike the meat. The main course (which was extra) was a joke as well. Literally pieces of shrimp, in a shrimp dish. shrimp. On a massive bed of mashed potatos and wheat. The carbs were fine, but nothing special (just normal mashed potatoes), and while the shrimp were tasty, they were only (medium sized shrimp as well, not tiger shrimp or really big shrimp). The desert was nice though. I ordered the cheese platter, which I enjoyed. Lastly, while a rigid course meal should mean you receive each dish shortly after the previous one, I had to wait about minutes after each time I finished a dish, meaning I was waiting for an hour of the dinner. Just waiting for an hour. All in all a terrible visit and I won't return again. The star is only for the view, which I didn't actually get to enjoy."

"This review is for the ground floor restaurant (I believe the hotel has recently opened one on their top floor but this review is for the ground floor restaurant Started off very promisingly, we arrived early and the very helpful hotel reception staff suggested we have a pre-dinner drink in the bar. The service in the bar was also friendly and excellent. The hotel was an interesting design, being a converted water tower. In fact at this point we were wondering about staying in the hotel were we to visit Cologne again. Went through to the restaurant which was again beautifully designed. Large glass walls, beautifully light even in the rain and lots of greenery immediately outside giving the room a lovely tranquil atmosphere. The place was very quiet but it was Monday evening. We were the first table in and only 3 other tables arrived during the course of the evening. Our starters were fine. My smoked salmon and potato cakes with apple sauce was tasty, I didn't think the apple sauce worked with the rest of the dish but that could be down to personal taste. My husband had the ham terrine with mixed green legumes and pea puree which was also fine. We both picked the Wiener Schnitzel for main as we found the menu choices fairly restricted. Unfortunately we have had this dish often in Germany and we found this to be not of the best. The veal seemed gristly in parts. Service slowed down as the other 3 tables arrived. Our wine had been placed in a wine bucket away from our table, standard practice in many restaurants and fine so long as the restaurant staff are aware when you need your glasses topped up. Sadly this was not the case here and we had to get up from the table and go and get the wine ourselves on more than one occasion. When the bill arrived it was apparent that a mistake had been made. When we questioned it, the situation was quickly rectified – we had been charged for 2 bottles rather than the 2 glasses of sparkling wine we had with our starters. This made a substantial difference to the bill, almost doubling it and it was hard to see how such an error had been made in such an empty restaurant. We left feeling disappointed and a bit let down. Overall the restaurant looked lovely but was let down by very average food and very average staff. What a pity !"

"My twin brother Stephen and I were wandering around this area of Cologne aimlessly on a cold but bright Wednesday early afternoon when we chanced upon this cafe bar and what a great find. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here,a...light and airy interior, eclectic decor and furnishings, a rustic looking cafe bar with plenty of seating options spread throughout this place both inside and outside, as this cafe bar was very full we chose to sit outside, I noticed this place had a good range of bottled craft beers and after a quick study of the beers on offer we both opted to have bottles of Brewdog Brewery punk ipa these were served chilled, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great cafe bar we were in. I am a big fan of Brewdog Brewery beers, back in my home to town of Liverpool we have a Brewdog bar and I am a regular visitor so I have a real appreciation of their beers and the punk ipa is a particular favourite of mine, it's a rich, hoppy and well balanced ipa bursting with taste, very easy to drink,a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond, it was just so good being in such a vibrant cafe bar enjoying a quality brew and planning out the day ahead in this beautiful city on the River Rhine. We really enjoyed our beers in here and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Cafe Banh Mi we had a great time. Cafe Banh Mi is easy to locate along Bobstraße. Well worth checking out if your in the area."

"No question, in the beer egg, you got the best shell dishes in Cologne for many years. However, so that not enough, the menu offered so much more that there was something for every other taste, e.g. the incomparably good matjesfilets with bacon beans. And that is why the beer island was and is well known beyond the borders of Cologne. In early February 2014, the former tenant retired after 30 years, but of course it should not be the end of the over 700-year beer-esel tradition. The beer egg was Cologne's shell house number one, which must also remain. In addition to traditional mussels in the Rhine, more than twenty other mussels were offered in the beer egg. But also outside the mussel season, which in the beer eel from 11. August to Easter Sunday lasted, there were delicious, strong bourgeois cuisine. I have not yet been able to know whether it was on the 11th. August 2014 really gave a new beginning, but soon as possible and if necessary zo Fooss no Kölle Jonn... will be reported again. Update September 2014: Today on September 15th, 2014, I entered the new URL and the food and drink collection in the location. One speaks of reopening autumn or In mid-September 2014, I asked Facebook to see if and when it may be. The menus presented on the new homepage are as I wanted them, even chili showers can be found there... hopefully it will be back soon! 17.09.2014: Just got an answer from beer donkey: Soft Opening at the end of September. Yes then... 23.09.2014: I have just learned that today has been opened at 11:00. That's a good news for all the friends of the beer island."
