"Friday 25th August 2023, My husband and I we saw a sign for a 17th Century Seafood Inn at Cadgwith Cove, and so we decided to explore this further. A steep narrow lane winds down to a small cove, divided by a small rocky promontory. Thatched stone cottages cluster round the beach. It is a working fishing port and local fishermen catch mainly crab and lobsters out in the bay and these are sold at the fish market on the quay. We parked the car in the car park at the top of the hill and took the path down to Cadgwith Cove. The path wound through a wild flower meadow and then down through the thatched cottages, even through gardens on the way to the cove, a very idyllic place with pastel coloured cottages and lovely cottage gardens. A flight of steps brings you out opposite the harbour quay, with its brightly coloured fishing boats and buoys, nets, chains and winches used in the catching of lobsters and crabs. Cadgwith Cove Inn was a lovely thatched inn, with a lovely outside courtyard, where you could sit and eat in the sunshine; they also have a nice indoor restaurant. My husband and I had a nice table for two inside. The restaurant is oak beamed and has pictures of seafarers and boats and plaques about boats which have been lost to sea in the cove. We perused the small but interesting menu; it had lots of lovely fish dishes on it and we ordered our food. We both had starters; my husband had scallops and I had crab pate served with brown bread and butter. The starters were delicious and were just the perfect size to get the palate started. My husband for his main course had the prawn, hake and monkfish curry served with rice, which he said was delicious. I had lobster thermadore served with a nice crispy salad and buttered new potatoes. The lobster was to live for and I had lots of fun excavating the meat, so all that was left was a pile of sculpture like shells. The meal was delicious. We washed all this lovely food down with a nice chilled bottle of Chardonnay white wine. We both had a dessert; my husband and I both had the dark chocolate and almond torte, which was sex on a plate and seductively delicious but lovely and light and was perfect finish to our meal. We did not bother with any teas or coffees afterwards as we were both well fed and very content. After our meal we went outside to listen to the locals singing ‘Sea Shanties’, there were lots of people there and it was nice to be part of this wonderful celebration."

"During our recent visit to Newquay, Cornwall, we had the pleasure of dining at Rebellion Restaurant, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience for our family. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and polite staff, who made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was lively yet cosy, creating the perfect setting for a family meal. The decor had a modern edge, with just the right amount of charm to make it inviting without being overwhelming. It's clear that a lot of thought has gone into making the space comfortable and appealing for all ages. As for the food, it was nothing short of excellent. We ordered a variety of dishes, including a classic burger and fries, succulent beef brisket, and deliciously tender pork belly. Each dish was cooked to perfection, with flavours that were rich and satisfying. The burger was juicy and well-seasoned, paired with crispy fries that were impossible to resist. The beef brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a smoky flavour that highlighted the quality of the meat. The pork belly was equally impressive, with a perfect balance of crispy skin and tender, flavourful meat. The service was exemplary throughout our meal. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that we had everything we needed while allowing us to enjoy our meal at our own pace. They were especially accommodating to our young family, making sure that everyone felt comfortable and well taken care of. Overall, we left Rebellion Restaurant very satisfied and with full bellies. It's a place that not only delivers on great food but also excels in creating a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Newquay, whether you're looking for a family-friendly spot or just a great meal in a fantastic setting. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Cornwall!"

"My girlfriend and I dined at this restaurant on a Monday evening, which is not typically a busy day. However, we arrived at 6:30pm and it was the last available table! The front of house manager greeted us warmly and handled a small issue with our reservation effortlessly. We were seated in a cozy area and offered drinks while our table was prepared. We quickly received glasses of Prosecco along with the menus, and they asked about any allergies—I mentioned my dairy intolerance which they noted. Soon after, we were led to our table with a beautiful view of the estuary, where our wine was waiting. A lovely amuse bouche and bread (with butter and oil for me) were served to start. My partner enjoyed a sweet potato foam, while I had a smoked salmon and caper dish (dairy-free). Both were delicious. Our smoked mackerel starters were equally delightful, one with a dairy foam and one without. Our main courses arrived in a timely manner and were both beautifully presented—roast cod for me and chicken breast for my partner. The dishes were all delicious. We finished our meal with an Irish coffee and a panna cotta, both of which were superb. Overall, it was an outstanding dining experience with impeccable service. Many Michelin-starred restaurants could take notes from the Old Quay House. We can't wait to return. "I 've never written a TripAdvisor review in my life but I feel like I have to warn people! I 'm a coeliac. We had stated this when booking but had felt confident in visiting as they mark gluten free items on the menu and there seemed to be quite a choice. However, I 've never had such a terrible experience in my life! When we arrived, my wife mentioned to the waiter that I 'm a coeliac. The waiter didn 't seem to understand, and got another waiter. This waiter just seemed to ignore the fact and get drinks orders. He came back having obviously read our booking notes to congratulate us on our anniversary and that the glasses of procesco were on the house! Very nice... But literally the only thing that was about this experience. Then we tried to order food... we had a voucher for a free three course meal for two that stated it was valid for a year. We asked the waiter if there was anything we couldn 't order using the voucher and was told it was fine. But if course, when we came to pay, he said he spoke to his manager and the voucher was no longer valid!!! they discounted us £45 or so supposedly cover the value of the voucher but had we known this when ordering we would not have ordered dessert or drinks to keep the bill reasonable. We were so mad at this point that my wife just wanted to go home, so instead of arguing further, we just paid the £40 or so remaining on the bill and left. The reason we were so angry is that throughout the whole evening, they were consistently so terrible handling what is in fact a very common allergy! When they took our order, we reminded them, AGAIN, that I can 't have gluten. The starter I chose was okay, but when I got to the main (marked gluten free on the menu!!! I ordered it and specified gluten free. When he read the order back however, he didn 't say GF, so I double checked that it was okay to eat. He seemed confused and he said he 'd have to check. He came back and said that it 's not ... I gave them the benefit of a doubt, and thought that maybe they were just out of GF pasta so it wasn 't available that night. So I asked what was available and picked steak. (None of the options were veggie btw We would normally ask about separate fryers for the fries etc but I had a feeling I would be talking to a brick wall so decided against it. The mains arrived. I had started cutting into the onion rings when my wife thank god asked the waiter to double check everything was gluten free. The other waiter rushed over and said that the onion rings I had already cut into were not in fact gluten free! My wife sent it back to the kitchen and reminded them that they would have to re cook the steak as the onion rings were lying on it and it was probably cross containimated. Lo and behold, the dish is returned suspiciously quickly with a suspiciously cold steak. They also didn 't offer to replace the steak knife that was now covered in gluten. But I was hungry and frustrated, so I just dug in. Luckily, I did not have a reaction. THEN it was time for dessert. Which, let 's remember, was supposed to be free, so even though our mains was a disaster (my wife 's was burnt btw we decided to stay. I asked the waiter to find out what I could eat. He went to find out, returned, and I ordered the Eton mess. But what turned up other than the wrong dish, and one containing gluten at that!! They promised the crackers on the cheese dish we 're gluten free but my wife was very suspicious of this given that they were branded 'hovis ' which, to our knowledge, don 't make GF biscuits. Anyway, after nearly being poisoned for the third time, they bring out the Eton mess, which was thankfully okay. Now you understand why we just sucked up the £40 bill (which probably should have been about half that and left. Utterly atrocious knowledge of allergens in both the wait staff and the kitchen. The food was average. The free glass of prosecco the only time the wait staff were at all nice to us. And I spent the whole time anxious that I would be glutened. One mistake I can forgive, miscommunications happen, but three times?!?! It speaks of ignorance and entirely uncaring for their guests health."

"Bit disappointed. Even before we got in a sign said Be nice or leave I was a little taken back by this.... a good start. Seamed a little unorganised when waiting to be seated. Was shown seats in middle, wife asked to be seated at the window, waitress was reluctant but had to oblige as it was vacant. Young daughter didn 't want anything on menu so I asked older waitress if they could do her pancakes the responce was no! Thats the menu there 's ways of declining customers requests and being abrupt isn 't good for customer relations. We ordered, apparently the waffles came covered already with sugar (they should leave it for the customer to add plus the maple! Was too sweet for her. My full English was greasy, cheap sausages that were tasteless, thin slices of hogs, luke warm tomatoes. Location was nice and divining area. We ate, paid n left. The above areas need addressing to take the business forward, couple next to us weren 't over impressed with their breakfast. We had to ask for condiments and cutlery as well plus milk for my coffee. Outside there was an extensive list of rules to read on a board... felt like a prison canteen (not that I 've experienced prison dinning! This is feedback not to damage business. We felt that the clients they were aiming at weren 't family, bit frosty to my girls and kids menu wasn 't very varied. We probably won 't visit again which is a shame as location and facility is present."
