"Text: Disappointed with this restaurant which I’ve used over 8 times in 18 months. I drove from Crawley and booked ahead of time for my 66th birthday lunch a table for 4 at 1.30pm with my wife and two teenage kids aged 16&18. The price is reasonable when the quality is good the bill came to £185.00 including £20 service charge automatically added to the bill. Overview: The service was okay as usual quick but not friendly we were served by 5 different people. However what was horrible and shocking was that the food quality has dropped significantly since my last visit in September 2023. The scallops were very good as usual but the haddock and chips was very disappointing indeed…(more later) Oysters were pathetic the flesh was tiny and not tasty at all. Calamari was soft and the batter was soggy and ‘flat’. The fish and chips … haddock was dry and flakey and chewy clearly frozen fish. The batter was completely different to my last meal at Regency this time it was soggy and flat no crisp whatsoever. The chips were cold and miserable. The apple pie was disgusting really disgusting tasteless and bland and the pie crust was soft and soggy the runny cream was a bit sour and suspect my wife asked me to taste it and I poured some into my double espresso and it curdled. The tiramisu and profiteroles were ok. I just recently voted this restaurant for best in Brighton but I think that was a mistake. It’s a shame the food quality was so poor especially for simple things that should be excellent and are not technically acceptable! Poor show."

"Harry RAMSDEN’S Brighton The great thing about TA is that if negative reviews mention the same issues year after year then it’s obvious the owner or management doesn’t care. Such it is with Brighton HR. I went there today for lunch. But the prices were astronomical, and reading many reviews here the quality was low so far as causing sickness. So I thought maybe a take away might be cheaper. But the first challenge were the steps up to the serving area. With no railings I just about got up them. However there was no one taking orders in the serving area, and the warming cabinets were empty. OK I thought at least mine will be cooked fresh. Another customer then arrived and asked if I had ordered yet. No I said, there’s no one here. Ah he said, you have to order first at the entrance on the wall mounted computer system. He pointed down the stairs that I had just struggled up. Don’t they take cash I said? No contactless card only. And no cash. But don’t I get to see what I’m ordering first? Nope was his reply. I really didn’t want to struggle down the stairs to order from a faceless computer screen, and then struggle back up. So I made a snap decision obviously HR had gone rogue with a take it or leave it policy. So I left as best I could. Then I caught a 27 bus to Saltdean where there is an amazing Chinese owned fish and chippy, serving fresh caught fish at half the price of HR and of infinitely better quality."

"We liked the look of this place straightaway. It is a large pub, uncluttered and with large tables spread throughout the space available, many occupied on a Sunday lunchtime by families with young children, such as ours. The staff were friendly and approachable, so all of our early impressions were favourable, and our order was speedily taken at the bar. On the subject of the bar, this pub features several well-known and well-respected real ales, so all good so far.The menu. however, was too large for a diner to feel really comfortable that the meals they ordered did not come straight from the freezer, and sadly, this was the case with some of the food we ordered. I chose the three-meat roast, and at least one of the meats, the pork I think, had that taste that food left too long in the deep-freeze tends to acquire. I had the same impression with some of the vegetables, notably the carrots. The beef was also disappointing, being rather sinewy and fatty. The quantities, however, were very generous, and at least one of our party, normally a hearty eater, had trouble finishing her meal. All in all, I felt a little let down by the Hanover. They've got such a lot going for them; ideal premises, a good catchment area, pleasant and efficient staff, but by offering such a vast menu, there must have been at least 50 dishes on offer, they sacrifice quality for quantity."

"Visited today for ‘Brunch’. Ex US resident so always up for a decent American experience. Diner was half full and admitted straight away. The theming of the diner is excellent, maybe trying a little too hard, but in a fun way. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food this is where things fall down a little. After order we had to wait 35moms for it to arrive. A long time. Had they been packed that might have been acceptable, but half full it was too long. I ordered Cowboy pancakes which promised a ‘stack’ of pancakes but needed up being 3, with 5 blueberries, the smallest pot of maple syrup I’ve seen and a couple of rashers of bacon. The pancakes were not fresh made I suspect they are store bought? It was tasty but just not as good as it should have been. Overall not a great ‘American’ breakfast. Also had a smoothies which was fine but not worth £5.50. Partner had a cooked breakfast which was a little better, but had the bottomless coffee which actually became a little annoying as it meant stopping the waitress every 10 mins to get a refill. Either they need to give you a pot of coffee from the start or make sure they are coming around every 5 mins to refill. Certainly in any American diner in the US, you wouldn’t have to be asking for constant refills. Overall price was £30 which is an OK price for 2 people. However I also feel it should have been better food. Would only return in certain circumstances."
