"Let me start by saying Alessio, Alessio, Alessio! This guy is amazing! I can't stress how wonderful the staff is and just how warm and caring they are. This is not something I would ever think to be top of the list when reviewing a hotel but they literally made all the difference. It's a family run operation with an incredible restaurant located right under the hotel. The hotel itself was very clean and recently updated. The views are spectacular as well and behind the hotel is this amazing tiered garden which runs halfway up the hillside. The garden is owned and operated by the hotel and used for all the fresh food at the restaurant. It really is an amazing place. The one thing I should point out is it's about 2 miles away from the Amalfi center so whenever you need to get anywhere you have to either rent a taxi which is $45 or take the bus. The bus runs regularly so not an issue but just something to think about especially during peak season when it can often be full with riders so they may not stop. Offseason I'm sure it's no problem at all. I would HIGHLY recommend if you stay at this hotel to either rent a car or scooters. It really will make all the difference in the world. Finally the beach is tiny and overcrowded during peak season so don't plan on using it during July and August. It's also about a 1/2 mile walk to get to the entrance of the steps then another 1/4 mile of steps to get down to the beach. This is NOT an easy trek so if you are planning on going here for the beach then this is not the right place for you. I hate even listing these negatives because the place really is magical. If you are looking for a romantic place and don't want to be in the center of all the activity then you can't go wrong with B&B Al Pesce d'Oro. There's something special about this place that I can't explain. If you decide to go you will understand what I mean. Highly recommend!"

"The first evening of my stay in Amalfi town, I had attempted to partake in dinner at a restaurant other than Locanda del Marinaio. This restaurant shall remain unnamed but suffice it to say, I was waiting in line outside said restaurant and the owner indicated the couple ahead of me was the cutoff for entering the restaurant. It was 7:30 pm. I was welcome with open arms at Locanda del Marinaio, tho it was substantially less busy than its counterpart. I received exemplary service and food, but it is the second visit I write about now. I didn’t catch the name of the gent who seated me, but he made me feel welcome at once…a feeling I wasn’t sure I’d experience again after the previous two restaurants had stared at me when I indicated I was dining and traveling (for that matter solo. “Stick her in the back near the column” or openly roll eyes at the request for a table for one, I assumed would be my experience for the duration of the trip. This particular server said to me “Better to spend time alone than to be in bad company.” I knew from that moment that my experience was to be a good one. I was soon greeted by Carmine, who I could presume was the head waiter…he was a delight the entire meal. I ordered a glass of house red and they brought the bottle to my table and treated me to the ceremony of bottle opening and tasting, tho they knew I’d likely only drink a single glass. I ordered an appetizer, melanzana alla parmigiana and while I had enjoyed this very dish two other times on this same trip, Locanda’s version was exquisite…it was all about the eggplant and the tomato sauce was so rich in flavor…I literally ate every single bite and cleaned my ramekin with my bread. My next course was Ravioli with buffalo mozzarella tin a sage butter lemon sauce. Every….single….bite surpassed the previous one in taste and enjoyment. I was in love with this dish and I took small slow bites to savor the experience. I left a single ravioli , not my ideal situation for a gal who’s long been part of the clean your plate club, but I was so very satisfied with the food and drink that I couldn’t imagine putting another bite in my expanding belly. Plus, this wasn’t my first rodeo, I wanted to save room for dessert and limoncello. I ordered the traditional Amalfi lemon cream cake and was treated to a gorgeous little dome of fluffy lemon sponge cake filled with a lemon-ee cream and dipped in more lemon-ee cream. Not too sweet, so very tart and oh so perfectly creamy, I all but cleaned my bowl with my tongue and didn’t want the experience to end. Of course I enjoyed my cake with a little limoncello and by the time I asked for the bill, I was on a little food buzz…or a real one (as I had been drinking back at my apartment in the hours leading up to dinner. I told Carmine it was my best meal in Amalfi to date and said I would happily write a google review. I asked him to spell his name so that I could call him out personally, but, like every extra special employee, he deferred praise to his team and asked that I didn’t single anyone out. I had too, of course, because he was an absolute gem and he and his colleagues ensured I was entertained, well fed, and anything but lonely on my solo journey on the Amalfi Coast. Go there, eat there, and leave feeling pretty wonderful."

"This is a very small restaurant located quite far away from the main harbour. Staff were friendly and food was okay, but definitely overpriced. My partner and I were very keen to visit this restaurant after reading some amazing reviews, however, we were disappointed when we arrived. The restaurant’s website claims it to be the most romantic restaurant in Italy and 6th most romantic in the world, however this is a bit of a stretch. The restaurant is very small, accommodating only around 6 tables in total, 5 of which had a sea view. Since we visited for dinner, we couldn’t appreciate the views very much as it was dark outside, but I imagine it to be lovely during the day. The food was pretty good, my partner ordered the lasagne and I had the shrimps (I thought I was ordering prawns as stated on the menu, but I was presented with shrimps). The lasagne was very good, but I was far from delighted with my seafood as it wasn’t as was described on the menu and was simply overpriced. Albeit, I thoroughly enjoyed the tiramisu, and ended up getting another! The website asks for a €40pp deposit when making a reservation, which can be reached rather comfortably, however this restaurant is not ‘high end’ enough to demand such high deposits. There are plenty of other restaurants in Amalfi serving cheaper food, in more convenient locations with no deposit requirement. Overall, I didn’t have a terrible experience, but it did not live up to the standards I was expecting after reading so many raving reviews about it. It essentially felt like I was sat in someone’s living room that had been rearranged to look like a restaurant with average food and cheap table/chairs etc, making this experience far from ‘the most romantic dinner’."
