"I visited Aquila last night with friends for the first time. It has a feel of dining at friends as it has a cosy warm atmosphere. The service was exceptional and every element of the food exquisite! "On a Saturday morning, we chose to have breakfast at this lovely cafe in the equally lovely small town of Bollington. When we arrived just after opening at 9.30am, things were already busy. Clearly a popular place. The menu contained several options we would have loved to order how to narrow it down? In the end we each chose one of the pancake options. Yes, there are even four different pancake options to choose from. The first treat was when the coffees arrived. I had asked for a double shot blackberry coffee in a flat white cup, and my coffee was both a good strength and properly hot. They had done a great job of properly heating the cup, which makes such a difference. And then the pancakes came out, a feast for the eyes. We also liked that when we asked for tap water, we were provided with glasses and a bottle of water rather than a tiny glass of water each, as can be the case in these parts.The cafe space itself is very pleasant downstairs on a corner in a row of stone cottages, with an outlook across the narrow street to stone cottages on the other side. It’s a shame there are cars parked along the street, somewhat ruining the view. And on that subject, there is a free carpark at the top of the street. We followed up our breakfast with a walk up White Nancy and then back along the canal. A very pleasant trip."

"Looking for a decent ale having been unsuccessful earlier in the evening, my neighbour suggested here. Known locally as a good pub for drinkers. For a wet evening, midweek, the place was quite full and we got a couple of seats around the corner, away...from the main bar. The decor isn't great but you come here to drink I guess. The extensive beer mat collection above the bar is a nice touch. Little glasses of beer next to the pumps and went for the darkest that wasn't a Porter, Barnsley something. As I'd had a girlfriend from Barnsley once, I gave it a try! It was OK, better than the Golden Hen' I'd had earlier. We struggle to find somewhere in Macc that serves good cask ale but this is one of the best. My friend John who used to run Porters was helping behind the bar, if only he was still there, that was a great pub."

"Came on Saturday night with a friend, the food was good (it has been better before) the service was a bit odd, it wasn't mega busy but all the waitresses seem extremely rushed off their feet and it took longer than necessary to get drinks. We ordered sparkling water and it came in the glass rather than bottle, and we were then charge £2.50 for it. We were sat near the door to the kitchen downstairs with the smell of smoke wafting up. The waitress walked into my chair at least 4 times as she was rushing past and the bathroom was dirty. For a small place the acoustics are very bad and its extremely loud in the back room. Will come back and try again as maybe we just went on an off day!"

"I was really excited to eat at Salt Bar. I’m a big fan of Scandi Food. Unfortunately I left disappointed. I don’t have any real complaints about the food but can’t say I was wowed, I'm didn’t meet my expectations. But is suppose that’s on me really. Service was slow, this is due to staff training I believe. We had a lad who took our orders multiple times, and seemed cause some confusion in the kitchen. That said, the more experienced caught it before it became a real problem and our order came out correct. I never have an issue with training, everyone has to start somewhere. My BIGGEST issue however was RIGHT AFTER ordering dessert a waitress informed us we had to be gone in 10 minutes. Which made the whole table feel immediately uncomfortable. Most of us couldn’t even remember dessert because we suddenly felt so unwelcome That we scoffed it down as quick as possible. The next table also came in early which made things worse. Ironically it took them almost 5 minutes to give us the bill. I feel that request would have been reasonable had WE been particularly slow on ordering, or eating. But the truth is it was the service that slowed everything down. It felt like we where being penalised suddenly for a mistake that wasn’t our own. I feel it is completely unacceptable to shift the consequences of your own mismanagement on to your customers. Honestly it ruined what was otherwise an enjoyable dinner amongst friends."
