"What it does excel at is offering a solid selection of craft beers and surprisingly good food. As is common these days, there's an extensive menu displayed on the wall with a variety of beers served in schooners. I often struggle to make a choice, but the server was more than willing to provide recommendations. We started with a bread basket as a 'little snack' to tide us over; it turned out to be a generous tray of three substantial bread rolls and olives. Let's just say I indulged in too much bread and immediately regretted it. For my main course, I chose venison with haggis. It was just the kind of hearty winter dish you crave. The meat was tender and melted in my mouth, all smothered in a rich dark sauce. At £16, it wasn't cheap, but I felt it was worth the price. For dessert, I opted for a chocolate cannoli while my friend tried the 'deconstructed peanut-butter cheesecake.' Though deconstructed desserts are a bit overdone these days, my cannoli was enjoyable, but I couldn't help but feel a tinge of dessert envy. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and had some lovely beers. I think The Potting Shed would benefit from a simpler approach, as it can feel a bit gimmicky at times, but I would definitely be happy to return."

Sadly, I need to revoke a star. During my last visit (one of many) the place appeared to be underheated and we were all a bit chilled. This time I ordered another hanging kebab, beef. Unfortunately it was a bit dry. Definitely recommend the chicken and haloumi cheese version. The Mojito as good as ever. It's the only one so far with crashed ice. Still an awesome place to hang out!

We ordered the hake with spun potato and burnt onion ketchup, which was both delicious and visually appealing. The mussel popcorn with aioli was a standout as well—I'd never experienced mussel popcorn before, but I found it delightful; the mussels were lightly fried to a perfect crisp. The rump of lamb was also impressive; it was very tender and paired with a fresh mint sauce. If you're looking for a nice yet casual dining experience in Edinburgh, I would definitely recommend The Potting Shed!

We arrived quite late for a dinner and were shown a nice place by the windows. The big, wooden door we entered through hinted at the lovely interior inside. It had a nice atmosphere and the garden-y decor certainly does it name honour. A huge board hangs by the door showing a selection of beer with fascinating titles (thought I spotted Dead Pony somewhere on it) but the staff is more than willing to help if you can 't pick one. Service was quick and the staff nice, although it wasn 't extremely full so not sure how it 'd be then. Still, food was alright although some of it felt a little overpriced. There was live music that really gave it a nice feel, as well, which I appreciated.

The Potting Shed is a great spot for a pre-theatre or ballet dinner, and the food is quite good as well. The interior has a charming potting shed vibe, complete with various pots and gardening tools that add to its quirky atmosphere. On my last two visits, I found the food to be simple yet delicious. However, I did experience slow service, particularly when it came time to settle the bill, which is my only complaint. Overall, though, everything else met my expectations. The staff are always professional and friendly (yes, it's possible to have both!). I’ll definitely be returning, especially since the food is enjoyable and it’s conveniently located just around the corner from the Edinburgh F... Voir le carte

This place confuses me. The chalkboard isn't a chalk board its paint. They sell Corona along side craft beer. The cocktail menu looks designed by a school kid. It lacks real character yet has comic style characters in its artwork. The interior design has spared no expense but looks a bit cheesy like Disney land. This bar has an identity crisis! Anyone into craft beer or good food can probably see through the fake facade quite easily. Still tho selling a bar tenders home brew is very exciting and hopefully a bit of back to basics with a genuine craft beer experience and craft cocktail menu it has a lot of potential to be a great bar. Didn't try the food only had a couple of beers on Saturday...

I went straight for the mains, choosing the seabass served with paella, calamari, and gazpacho, while David selected a hearty burger. It wasn’t long before our beautifully presented dishes arrived, definitely more sophisticated than your typical pub fare. My fish was cooked to perfection, and the gazpacho dressing added a lovely zing. David's burger was hearty and came with an excellent coleslaw that I admired! I felt a twinge of envy for Jen's lamb, which looked spectacular! We managed to save room for dessert, and I’m so glad we did. I ordered The Potting Shed Windfall, which featured chocolate soil spilling out of a terracotta pot and was loaded with nuts and raisins. The accompanying so...

During my second visit to this restaurant, I started with the Queenie scallops topped with Gruyere cheese. The dish included five scallops, which were perfectly cooked and paired with crispy, grilled cheese that added a lovely texture. For my main course, I ordered the seabass paella alongside a side of calamari. The paella featured two small, shallow-fried pieces of seabass and two large, deep-fried calamari rings, both of which contributed a satisfying crunch to the dish. However, I found the paella to be slightly overcooked, possibly because it had been prepared in advance and left to sit for too long. There were also some large, lumpy bits that indicated a lack of attention, and it could... Voir le carte

I also appreciate a good pun, so the chalkboard sign with an arrow pointing to "Lavvys" made me chuckle. The cleanliness of the establishment was another highlight, with reminders to wash your hands before returning to the bar. While it’s called the Potting Shed, don’t expect an extensive menu of elderflower and burdock wine—I wouldn't be surprised to find homemade nettle soup popping up someday, though. They may be a bit lacking in soft drink options, but that doesn't seem to bother the beer and cocktail aficionados. If you're not a fan of spicy food, the burgers are definitely worth considering. I tried one, and I can happily recommend it. The management hinted that they might expand, so...

Been here a good number of times, generally to see what's new on tap as one of my top 3-4 microbrew tasting spots. I also find its a fun place to bring out of town friends who are beer fans. This place is a bit marmite in its decor and tastes, you'll either like it or won't. It's quirky and some might say undecided on its direction but when it comes to the important aspects I can't complain. Took a friend there last night, opted for the new meatballs option on the menu. I had the pulled pork and chorizo and friend had the veggie chickpea option. Portion wise felt a little somewhere between a large starter and not quite a main but sufficed. Was considering the 12hr slow cooked beef but I'll l...
