"My wife I had a lovely lunch on the 27/08/24 with great service in the Royal Oak. On a very hot Tuesday it was nice and cool in the lovely surroundings of the Royal Oak and there were plenty of tables to chose from when we arrived at about 13:00 hours. The food was well presented served nice and hot, the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We were fascinated by the history of the building which dates back to 1002. Having been visiting Winchester regularly for over the last 20 years we can not understand why we have not had a meal at the Royal Oak before but we will now be returning again in the future."

Good beer and a nice wide range of choices on offer. Outside and inside seating are both lovely, especially with the heaters outside for the colder evenings. Only 4 stars as it is pretty pricey but a good pub regardless

We passed by chance. My wife saw the sign, so we turned into the narrow alley. I can't prove it's really the oldest pub. But no matter what, it is a super rustic pub, tradition and cosiness combined. Top service! Large selection of beer and drinks.

Beautiful old pub with a lot of character not very busy when we were there well outside the drinking zone got a lot of history getting a good selection of drinks not very well posted sign could easily miss if you don't need his friendly staff there promotion better

Visit Winchester for a day trip. Stumbled on the Royal Oak and decided to have a few drinks as it said was the oldest bar in England. Had a nice time there and enjoyed learning about the history of the institution. Very cool! Visit when you are in the area. Good prices too.
