"It's a lovely little hut with beautiful views right across Epsom Downs at lunch time there will sometimes be 30 minute queues, he mostly serves one person at a time, occasionally takes 2 orders at once, but it is SO WORTH THE WAIT! You will get a tray for your food which you can do what you please with, take it to your car, take it to the grass nearby or even over to the downs, and pop it back when you're finished. Keith has run this place for years, I'm almost 30 now and I remember him from when I was a kid, I've been there at least 100 times over the years and I've not had one bad experience he is very polite, accommodating, nothing is too much trouble and he obviously works his backside off. Through COVID he has mostly been working alone, long hours, 7 days a week, with a bit of help from his mother, so the brand new car now parked out back and now being closed on Monday is truly deserved. The food is unrivalled in it's price bracket as in, we pay 15 20 quid for 3 people and get food that is easily worth twice the price, even including a nice homemade cake to finish everything off, but I'm so glad it doesn't cost that much because it's just so worth it, everyone can afford it and enjoy it, I don't know what deal he has on that little hut but he is able to charge very reasonable prices for very good food, and the view that comes with it is the icing on the cake, we usually get a cheese and bacon burger, veggie burger, and 3 chips (1 for my daughter) with either cold or hot drinks and some cakes, maybe an ice cream for the daughter. The bread is delicious, the burgers are delicious, and the chips are nice and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside you never now which shape chips you'll get, crinkled or straight but that is part of the magic of this place. The cakes are homemade by Keith's mother and taste a million times better than any of the dry sorry pieces of card you'll find in Costalot or Stealbucks!!! There's just something about all of it the whole experience, it's not 5 star dining, it's just good old grub, served with a smile and a brilliant view of the Racecourse our very own Queen Lizzy likes to visit. What is not to love? Don't change anything Keith it's perfect as it is. I know as soon as Keith retires, unless he personally oversees the handover, it's going to be come yet another gentrified 20 pound per person piece of dog droppings we see popping up everywhere these days, I know for a fact if that happened you'd see a petition with 1000s of names on to change that, I'd sign it. I promise you if you have ever had a bad experience here, if you told Keith I know he would put it right, or he would have a very good reason as to why, he doesn't mess about. Best place in the whole of Epsom to eat for me, no doubts. Don't forget to get your mince pies here every Christmas, starting I think some time in November, but might be late October, they are the best mince pies on the planet, you can pre order a batch of them to take home or get one there and then to eat."

I recently enjoyed the bacon cheeseburger at this restaurant again, and it is truly hard to find a better one. It was absolutely delicious.

Best bacon roll and Chips on Epsom Downs. Freshly cooked food and excellent service. The car park behind the Lunch Box is big enough for many cars.

Best place for a bacon sandwich. Keith is well known by all his regulars and has been looking after his customers for many years. My kids love an 'Epsom Downs ' lunch- plenty of fresh air, great views, nice food

This little food outlet, supplies tasty affordable food, which you can sit in your car and have or sit on the grass, weather permitting. I found the proprietor extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and able to conjure up basic fare, hot or cold, and a good selection of cakes or standard snacks. Voir le carte

Just fancied a coffee and a view over the downs and remembered The Lunch Box next to the track... Had the best Egg and Bacon roll ever...don't know if it was the little bit of salad or the thin layered bacon but it was amazing... They also do great chips and have a large range of homemade cakes which looked amazing !!! Recommended

Every time we visit Epsom, we always stop by this restaurant for a hot drink and a meal, and we are always satisfied. The food is good, the prices are very reasonable, and the view is the best in Epsom. I particularly enjoy their Scampi and chips, which always comes with a side of salad, a nice touch that sets them apart from other restaurants. I can't find any faults with it.

"I visited my elderly Mum today, she suggested going to the Derby Arms for a roast dinner as she'd eaten there recently with my sister. However they were fully booked, so I looked online and found Galu. The reviews were great and my Mum has only ever heard good things from friends and neighbours. So I called and booked for 12:45 Sunday 21st Jan 2024. We were both pleasantly surprised to see roast dinners on the menu ... Mum order lamb and I ordered beef part of their set menu. When the dinners arrived, you could see straight away that the lamb was Very Fatty (not even crispy) when my my tried eating it, it was both tough and chewy! As for the beef, this was cooked ok and edible, although I asked for the beef to be medium, but it was more well done. The waiter came over to ask if the meal was ok, I highlighted how the lamb was... the manager then came over and offered my Mum a slice of beef to compensate, bearing in mind she ordered lamb. Mum subsequently found that some of her roast potatoes were hard inside! I finished my meal, but could see Mum really didn't enjoy hers leaving a substantial amount on her plate, and having tried her lamb it really was inedible! We were then offered a full list of desserts rather than the set menu, having chocolate brownie and creme brûlée (both were gorgeous) When the bill arrived, I was hoping they would have somehow made amends, but alas no ... as Mum doesn't like to cause a fuss and it was her treat, I decided not to say anything, although the staff manager could tell we weren't happy. Having come from East Sussex for the day and regularly have great Sunday roasts in local pubs, I was hoping for something special in this restaurant, but sadly that wasn't the case. In fact it's probably one of the worst roast dinners I've had in a long time. I very much doubt we'll return ..."
