"The hotel/restaurant is located in a picturesque rural area, right next to a 14th-century thatched roof church. We went for a special birthday meal, the staff were really friendly and attentive. It wasn't mega busy when we went, so the food came out really quickly. I had the pigeon to start and the red deer for the entrée. Both were cooked perfectly, all the food was ambrosial and looked stunning. As we were there for a birthday and mentioned this on booking, a happy birthday plate with a few petit fours was given with no extra fee. I decided to stop by for a drink and was pleasantly surprised to receive a warm and friendly welcome from all the staff. I will definitely be returning to try their food, as the other diners seemed to really be enjoying it.

We went for Sunday lunch and ordered our drinks at 2:20pm, but they didn't arrive until 2:55pm. The starters were good, with 3 crab dishes being particularly nice, but the warm beef salad was disappointing as it was stone cold. For the mains, 2 out of 3 beef dishes were tough and raw, while the chicken was very enjoyable. We decided not to have any desserts as we had grown bored with the overall experience. In terms of service, we would rate it a 4, and the location a 5.
