"Friendly welcome, starter was ok, but too expensive for what was on offer. Vitello tonnato, the roast veal was overcooked and not nicely fried, sauce was bought, which would be fine if the price wasn't so high. If you like canned fruit salad, you should order the Spitzwald house coupe. Here too, that's fine in a retirement home, but not in a restaurant that charges such prices. I ask myself, what is produced in-house and what is supplied by the industry! I would also look at the drinks menu before ordering. A liter of mineral water costs 10.00 francs! 12 bottles (glass cost approx. 16.00 Fr. (1.30 Fr. in the purchase!!"

Very friendly staff and the food was good too. Unfortunately the “carrots” were too done. I've been pleasantly surprised since my last visit. Follow me on Google Maps

The food was delicious and there was nothing to complain about. The only one star less is that the atmosphere is not exactly cozy and inviting. The service and the cuisine were good and therefore deserved and honest 4 stars.

We were totally blown away because from the outside it looks quite ordinary, but inside it's a very clean, bright and spacious restaurant with a warm atmosphere more suited to an Alpine village. The food is fantastic and the service is quick and attentive by a team of very experienced staff who make excellent hosts. Even though it was very busy at lunchtime over Easter weekend, the staff were very friendly, professional and warm. It's an excellent place which is well worth the journey. A hidden gem in Basel.

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
