"Rather than asking each person what they wanted to drink, he took it upon himself to just serve everyone tea when one person made that request. We noticed he did this with other tables as well. Additionally, he tried to take my plate away before I was finished eating. About 20 minutes later, he returned to inform us that our "time was up" and collected our plates. We wouldn’t mind if they needed the table, but a more polite approach—like saying, "Sorry, but we need this table in 15 minutes"—would have been appreciated. To make matters worse, he raised his voice at another staff member right in front of us. When we were settling the bill, he mumbled something about how a tip would be nice—after that experience, there was no chance of that happening. In terms of Covid safety measures, it was quite alarming. He wiped down tables with his arm and there was no sign of any cleaning sprays or wipes being used. His mask was frequently on and off during our visit. This lack of attention to safety made us feel uncomfortable, and it's a major reason we wouldn't consider returning. While the food was lovely, the service was the oddest experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The waiter had his moments of being pleasant, like offering us glasses of prosecco; however, he was also abrupt and often came across as rude. He really should not be working in a front-of-house role with that demeanor. Perhaps his abruptness can be attributed to cultural differences, but overall, we left feeling that we would not return because of the bizarre service. The hotel should definitely reconsider who they assign to customer service."

Excellent, friendly service and interesting variety of taster on the beautifully presented afternoon tea platter. Very well organised social distancing arrangement. Will definitely be returning for another afternoon tea. Thank you.

To add to our discomfort, he attempted to take my plate away before I had finished eating. About 20 minutes later, he returned to inform us that our time was up and took our bill. While I understand if they needed the table, he could have expressed it more graciously, perhaps saying, "We're sorry, but we need this table in 15 minutes." I also saw him behaving rudely towards another team before us. When it came time to pay, he murmured something about how a tip wouldn't be likely after this experience. From a COVID safety perspective, it was quite concerning; he wiped tables using his arm without any cleaning spray or wipes in sight. His mask was frequently moved up and down during our visi...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity.
