"We discovered this wonderful place by coincidence. Berlin friends had recommended us an other restaurant nearby, but they were hosting a corporate Holiday party. When I asked the chef what other place he could recommend he pointed us to Schwiliko, "it's different" he added. Well different it was! None of us ever had Georgian food and for some reasons we all expected a good hearty meal, nothing subtle but some nice comfort food. Well, we were wrong. The owner of this wonderful authentic restaurant completely took over as we started ordering our food. She steered us into ordering less, to trying more new things and she even told us that we had to start with a cheaper wine (when does that happen!) so that we could maybe better finish our meal with the more expensive wine that we initially ordered. All very determent, clearly with the best intentions to really make us experience in the best possible way what Georgian food is about. Meanwhile she told us a lot about Georgia.I don't want to spoil your adventure by revealing too much about the delicious food but the one hint I can give you is what we learned from the owner and that is that Georgia has a long history of being at the cross road of trade roads to the East. Georgian cuisine is the result of these interactions of culinary ideas carried along the trade routes by merchants and travelers. We had an unforgettable evening and I went back there during my next visit with other friends who were equally impressed and I wil be back there every time I visit Berlin. You will love the subtle flavors of the food, the atmosphere and the wonderful warm welcome of the owner. She is a true force of nature, no way not to love her."
