"Last week (end November 2014) the Café des Alpes received a one star rating in the 2015 Michelin Guide. There are only two other starred restaurants in the Valais - Damien Germanier in Sion has a star (and like the Café des Alpes 17/20 in the Gault Millau) and Didier de Courten in Sierre which has 2 stars and 19/20 and is priced accordingly. The cuisine at the Café des Alpes has gone from superlative to near divine. We have had several meals there in the last few months as we love the game season and Sam Destaing - as I noted in an earlier review - does chasse better than anyone else in this region. Today we had the opportunity to try the new winter menu. The starter was a canneloni of smoked salmon with a base of tartare of loup de mer and a lemon jelly that was so bursting with citrus it was incredible. I should also mention the amuse-bouche which had a tiny scoop of mustard ice cream. I have never, ever seen that before and it set off the ham beautifully. Our main course was a quasi of lamb with a delicious sauce. Dessert was a perfect moelleux au chocolat - chocolate fondant. Wow!All this was a menu at 75frs. There are several other menus available and of course the à la carte choices. The restaurant retains its "bistrot du village" feeling and the welcome is warm and friendly. I cannot think of another restaurant in its class from Sion to the lake - and beyond. And I am more than happy that it is in my backyard so to speak. Trains link Orsières to le Châble (for Verbier) and Martigny on an hourly basis and the restaurant is an easy 6 minutes walk from the station through the old streets of the village."

I love going to this restaurant- the food is just divine and we finally had good service there ! We always found the young waitress to be dismissive and rude. The decor is terrible but the food and wine makes us very happy every time.

While near Verbier, it is definitely worth a drive to Orsieres to dine at Les Alpes. Outstanding lunch selections were extremely well prepared. The chef is well regarded and highly rated as a member of the Swiss Gastronomic Orgn. Charming outdoor seating surrounded by flower displays make this a must stop while you are in the area. Great food and friendly service too!

We took some important clients here for dinner and it was epic, reassuring sommelier helped us choose some excellent wines. We all took the menu which was five courses, each more delectable and delicious than the last. The cheese trolly was special, at least 30 cheeses, some local, some not. The Art work could be updated. Overall the meal was excellent but pricey. This is the best restaurant in the area.

The food at des Alpes was first class and delicious. The service was very good. The decore is clean and pleasant, but a little strange. All entrees were nicely presented. The cheese board was the largest selection of local cheese I have ever seen. Be prepared for the price, at $50 per plate, and an expensive wine list, it can add up quickly, but it will leave a memorable impression on your vacation in the alpes.

Have been always happy with the food at the Cafe des Alpes and have been going regularly for 20 years. However this time was a disappointment we waited nearly 4 hours for a meal, , no explanation from the staff who were not particularly friendly . The food was good but I missed the traditional leek pie which has been on the menu forever. And the duck was very average. Perhaps the Michelin star has gone to their heads? They offered 2 coffees to apologise.

Have been going to the Cafe des Alpes for 20 years and have always enjoyed the experience Once again the food was excellent but the service was poor bordering on the arrogant. Is it because they now have a Michelin star? Very long wait in between courses (nearly 4 hours for dinner) which would not have been such a problem if the staff had offered an explanation or been a little friendlier. They did offer 2 complimentary coffees! ! Such a shame the traditional Tarte aux Poireaux is no longer on the menu.

We visit the café des alpes 1-2 a year as we love the creativity and the taste of the cook. This time was no exception. The menu is extremely original and the execution is perfect. The beef tatar is out of this world!. Great choice of original deserts. The wine list privileges some excellent vintages from Wallis, with an acceptable price level. But the choice of French and Italian wines is limited. For the first time, we found the service a bit disappointing: the restaurant was full and the two waiters struggled to keep up with the clients orders. We had to wait very long for the wine to be served, glasses would not be filled, we had to wait for the bread.....and one of the waiters was a bit...

Was invited to this restaurant and it was extraordinary!. Would love to eat here every day. The room was well decorated, the lighting was sufficient, the chairs are comfortable and the tables were not overdecorated which leaves you no room. Charming. The atmosphere was awesome, the service was fast and attentive. They announce the dishes articulately. They were able to answer all our questions ( we had a lot.) Very professional. We ordered the 5/7 *not sure* course menu. Was extremely delicious. The presentation was really artistic. We took our time looking at it before eating. No complains about the food at all, the price is correct. I wouldn't mind paying more for what we had. It was absol...

We eat frequently at les Alpes (happily for us we live not too far away!) and since Sam Destaing took over from M. Joris the restaurant - which was always good - has gone from excellent to superlative. Knowing that the Chasse menu had started we went there last Monday hoping for a lovely meal. Instead we had the best - absolutely the best - Selle de Chevreuil we have ever eaten anywhere. The meat was perfectly and delicately cooked and so tender it melted in the mouth. The plates of food put in front of us - we chose the Marcassin (wild boar) as a starter - were so beautifully presented it was almost a shame to eat them. And the red cabbage that was served with the venison was extraordinary....
