"Great food and atmosphere but couldn't recommend to people with allergens or dietary requirements. 3.5 out of 5 Food was amazing but unfortunately even though we checked several times there was a mistake in our order (no bacon on the burger). We were the first food orders of the day so the kitchen shouldn't have too been busy yet. We were given assurances that the burger was bacon free when it was served but my sister opened it up and checked so thankfully she didn't eat any of the burger. It meant me and my sister shared one meal while we waited about 20 minutes for a new burger and we had a toddler with us who was very hungry. Nothing was done to compensate us for the error unfortunately which leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We loved the food here juicy flavourful burgers and well seasoned generous portion of chips. Halloumi with chilli jam was delicious but a bit measly at 3 pieces 4 pieces would make it a nice sharer for 2 people. The heaters were great and outdoor setup was amazing with cover and sandwiched between two buildings. Our server, the Asian lady, was really kind and lovely. Social distancing wasn't great we were sat right next to people, and while we didn't mind (we are both vaccinated) they were clearly uncomfortable. Booking is easy using their online system and requires a deposit to be paid (we paid £20 for two people). Sadly we couldn't recommend the place to any of our friends with allergies or specific dietary requirements given our experience. Mistakes should be handled better money off the bill or something complimentary. My sister was really upset as apparently no bacon is often an issue when she eats out, but she was expecting better from hope and Union."

Sister ordered a meal for me from here. They used a Beyond Meat Burger which was lush. Also included vegan sweets. I believe one of the owners is vegetarian. Came hot as I recall.

Such a lovely place in a fabulous courtyard setting selling an impressive array of local and world beers. The plan was to eat here but a “system error” prevented this from happening which was a shame. It was so busy, with the majority of people just drinking so it probably worked out well anyway. I’d definitely go back and check out some of the beers one day though

hope and union is a little quirky pub/restaurant we loved. I had mais fed chicken that was moist and juicy. it was presented on a delicious bed salad. in my humble opinion, this food is worth visiting for what I call its unique selling point, the toilet art experience. but the loos were clean and tidy. I photographed the loos and loved the art. the ambiente is neo industrial and has a fabulous, stark element. google will make them. the service was very friendly and efficient. we're coming back. I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for lunch. Both times were lovely, the food is really tasty, when I had brunch I had like an egg and chorizo dish which I really liked. When I came for lunch I had the blackened cod tacos with the pulled pork loaded fries, my partner had the minted lamb burger with the ham loaded fries, the food was delicious and the staff were really attentive. The lunch was post lockdown so there was a QR code to scan to assist with track and trace and there was hand sanitizer when you went in so it has good Covid-19 measures.

Having reserved a table for 4 earlier in the week we were excited to visit and try the menu on what was to be our pre-meal before going to see Morrissey at the Globe theatre. We had all travelled down from Durham, but upon arrival I was told our reservation had disappeared from the system, which we all found hard to believe. Albeit we were 5 minutes late due to traffic but I'm pretty sure they just give our table away, as it was super busy. This left us with very little time to get food anywhere but luckily there was a Spoons' nearby. Think I would only visit again for drinks.

"Visited this weekend for a family celebration and had an unremarkable experience. Decor of establishment was rather nice. Admittedly, we were a large booking of 17 individuals and this can be challenging to manage and organise for such a small establishment. The mature gentleman was rather rude to our host whom asked for an additional chair for the party as we were one short despite finalising numbers as agreed earlier in the afternoon. This is no way an appropriate manner to treat guests and clearly set a bad example for his staff as well as the wrong tone for the evening ahead. Guests were not even properly seated before being hounded for their drinks order despite not being given a drinks menu. Upon asking about cocktails to the waitress whom was pleasant she was unable to give the full selection just the three she knew of the top of her head that were the standard run of the mill selection. To give full credit to her fo honest regarding the diaquiries before we ordered them in. The cocktails (passion fruit martini and cosmopolitan's) ordered were disappointing as they tasted watered down and lacked a bang. Don't understand why one of the passion fruit martinis was brought out in a drinks glass which was rather random. Drinks orders were taken on an ad hoc basis with the waiting staff not taking a full tables order walking away as people attempted to give their drinks order, unintentional maybe? We were rushed to give our starters/mains orders all of which came promptly and all guests received the correct order. The waiting staff shouted out food orders from the top of the table to identify who's order was who's. The pasta based dishes were pleasantly enjoyed yet the pizzas and parmesans proved to be somewhat vanilla. Not all guests had properly finished eating their meals before the gentlemen asked if he could remove plates before receiving an answer from the full table resulting in some guests to not finish their meals. We were not offered a deserts menu once they removed dishes from the table. We had second hand embarrassment for an additional family party whom were having a celebration meal at the restaurant. The party had started to get settled at the table putting out their balloons etc when the mature gent stormed over barking at them to move as he shoved table and chairs across the restaurant. This clearly made them feel uncomfortable as was noticed and commented by the service users of the restaurant. The waiting staff plonked the celebration cakes on the table one of which didn't even go to the correct individual. NO SPECIAL MEMORY OR MAGICAL MOMENT TO BE HAD FOR A 18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. It would have been nice if they had asked before bringing it out as some of our party partially missed out on the occasion. The bill was given to the wrong individual instead of the host which allowed for everyone to see the bill when this was an private affair. To be perfectly honest we visited a few months earlier and had a disappointing experience but with better service. Linthorpe Road is bursting with alternative, superior, independent eateries that I would highly recommend instead."
