"This place is a bit of an enigma! The location is beautiful with High Rocks behind it and the steam railway running at the bottom of the garden. Indeed the gardens themselves are beautiful. That's about where it stops. We went there for a drink...and bar snacks with the intention of watching the trains on the railway gala day. Arrived abut quite expecting the place to be busy as I thought other people might have the same idea. Place was deserted! Ordered drinks and sat in garden. Started to rain so moved inside and decided to order bar snacks. Very limited and not particularly appealing menu. Basically baguettes or sandwiches. Suppose they want to force you into their restaurant! Ordered sandwiches which when arrived were wrapped in cling film and in a paper bag. Had obviously been pre-prepared and stored in a fridge as they were ice cold. Served wrapped in cling film no garnish. To be fair the sandwiches were well filled but the presentation left much to be desired. Most of the staff appear to be Eastern European. I don't have a problem with that but they do need to be able to communicate in English. Toilet facilities are totally inadequate. Heaven knows what it's like when the place is busy (is it ever busy It is a real shame because with a little flair and creativity it could be made a beautiful venue. In common with the other people who have left less than satisfactory reviews about this place it seems to suffer from greedy owners."

Over the past years we have eaten here, on a sunday, at least times. The service has always been good and the food well above expectations. Similar sort of service and food that you find on the cruise ships.

The food and attention to detail was absolutely first class. We had a table for celebrating my husband`s birthday. We have been coming to the High Rocks for a number of years including weddings and can never fault it. It is such a...unique venue with a beautiful garden. Sunday lunchtime at Giuseppe`s has such a lovely atmosphere with a grand piano being played.

Have just returned from having Sunday lunch there were of us in the party and we all agreed that the standard of service and quality of the food was a as good as our last visit. Although the restaurant was busy the waiters were...brilliant, the food was plentiful and well cooked and presented. Never had poor service or a problem with the food and that includes our sons wedding. Worth the star rating any day.

This restaurant is incredibly charming and welcoming. The staff is attentive and the service is fantastic. The atmosphere is perfect for a hot summer day under the trees with open windows and a cool breeze, but would also be just as atmospheric on a rainy cold day. The decor is well cared for, although there may be a small issue here and there. The beer was excellent and the wine selection was fantastic. The Mozzarella Salad was a standout, reminiscent of what you would find in Rome. All of the fried dishes were enjoyed, and the vegetarian, gluten-free risotto was a dream. The desserts were beautiful. Unfortunately, there was no time for coffee or tea, as you can head behind the restaurant t...

We came to High Rocks for a late lunch earlier this month for lunch. First impressions were that the place was a bit old fashioned, both in terms of decor but also with regard to the menu, which included starters such as melon and parma ham (I think this was popular quite a long time ago). We ordered an array of dishes, from starters through to dessert and found the food to be very pleasant. I had the lasagne started and risotto for a main, which were tasty and very generous in terms of portion size. The service couldn't be faulted and it's clearly a very tight ship at the restaurant, with someone always on hand to help. So on balance, I'd recommend the restaurant, outstanding service, good...

My partner and I came to this restaurant on a Saturday evening. The location is great, near the spa valley and the TOG route. The venue is nice, but it seems like it could use some improvement. The staff were friendly, the waiter was courteous, and the restaurant had a beautiful wood-framed design with fairy lights on the deck. The food was good, but compared to other restaurants that are excelling in their cuisine and presentation, High Rocks falls behind. The elevator music was a bit outdated, but it added to the ambiance and made us feel like we were on a cruise ship. The waiter was knowledgeable about the desserts, which was appreciated. Background music can enhance the dining experience...

"Firstly I would like to say that this restaurant has just been refurbished, and it didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant, more like a cafe at the beach somewhere! It felt very sparse and most Italian restaurants I e been to have proper tablecloths on the table but these were plastic and I noticed one table it was tapped up underneath, in my opinion it needs to be made more warmly and have more of a family feel. The food was really nice, although I would advise anyone to make sure they double check their order as I chose chicken in a sauce really nice which came with vegetables but I also asked for a separate portion of potatoes, when it arrived I just had chicken with a few cut up potatoes and a very very small garnish of salad ! I mentioned this to the waitress who had taken our order and she said I know but the chef had given you extra salad !! Sorry but salad is not vegetables , it clearly said on the menu it came with vegetables. Having said about the above issue, the meals we all had were nice and the staff gave us a very warm welcome and because of the blip they said we could have a free pudding…..not sure if we all did or it was just mine but I never see the bill as we were treated to this. To finish the evening off we were given a lovely limoncello shot. We would definitely go back. Thankyou for a lovely evening in your restaurant"

"Popped in for a late lunch with my wife and sat in the garden in the sunshine. Friendly bar staff. Both had the mussels starters which were ok and the bread was nice. My wife had the surf and turf main, priced at £40, which...surely would deliver at that price. Sadly not. The lobster was ok but the steak, cooked rare as requested, was grey, under seasoned and tasteless. She didn't finish it and didn't even bother asking for a doggy bag. She felt it was the worst steak she had ever eaten. I went for the chicken fajitas which arrived sizzling on a platter. The chicken was dry, massively under seasoned and the red peppers and onions weren't cooked properly. The salad I didn't even touch as it was so painfully boring to look at. My three tortillas were like cardboard and I ate just half of one and then gave up. Chips were only randomly cooked through so we both left most of those also. We gave feedback to the waitress when she cleared the table and went to pay. Whilst paying at the bar the licensee went behind the bar without acknowledging us in the slightest and told the lady taking our payment to take the fajitas off the bill. No apology; not even the time of day was paid to us. He even said to her tell them the fajitas have been taken off the bill'...why on earth he couldn't tell us directly is beyond me! It was rude beyond belief. We paid and left. Over the years we have been to many carvers, seafood evenings and meals out with family and friends at The Black Horse. I will never step through the door again and waste my money. I will do my utmost to make sure that anyone who asks why will learn the truth. What a dreadful experience!"
