"Visited La Lanterna with a work colleague after reading your recommendation. He had been before and been put off going by slow service so I had to persuade him. On this night service was slow but not terrible but that said there really weren't that many tables occupied. I had a pizza topped with ham, olives and salami picante which was quite delicious. My colleague had very large super prawns on a bed of spaghetti as a starter which he said were tasty but they did seem very, very fishy smelling. This was followed by tagliata di roast beef on a bed of rocket. That looked and tasted very good. Overall service on this night wasn't brilliant so I would worry about going again if it was very full. Food was good but certainly not exceptional. I think La Lanterna definitely benefits from a lack of good competition to hit the number one spot in San Giorgio"

"L'atmosfera può sembrare banale ma la sala è accogliente e l'arredamanto, pur senza troppe pretese, è di buon gusto; forse non guasterebbero luci più soffuse e qualche tenue sottofondo. Spicca una piccola credenza d'epoca, direi primi 900, di ottima fattura e squisitamente locale nella tipologia e nelle forme.Il menù non è ampio ma è una scelta ben precisa: non offrire tanto ma concentrarsi su poche portate da curare nei minimi dettagli. La cucina è di prim'ordine, oltre le aspettative, i sapori sono coniugati con sapiente competenza, l'impiattamento e la presentazione sono perfette. Ogni portata è servita nel piatto giusto per colore e forma e con disposizione molto curata, ogni particolare è pensato per esaltare i contrasti cromatici che preparano al gusto.Mi rammarico per non aver fatto delle foto.Il servizio, volendo cercare il pelo nell'uovo, potrebbe essere più adeguato all'alto livello della gastronomia. La cameriera che con tre o quattro piatti in mano apre la porta della cucina con un piede e quasi corre per la sala è una immagine poco appropriata alla tipologia del locale. Per il resto, cortesia e precisione impeccabili.Io il pesce lo conosco bene, sono cresciuto e vivo in un luogo dove i bambini imparano prima a nuotare e dopo a camminare: il pesce in questo locale è semplicemente eccellente.Inutile dire che il prezzo non è popolare, è adeguato alla qualità; anzi spesso mi è capitato di pagare anche di più senza ricevere in cambio cibo e trattamento adeguati.Una cosa è certa, se passerò ancora da queste parti una visita da Balan non mancherà. "If you can ignore the tacky internal decoration and go straight to the food you'll find delicious pizza and excellent spaghetti and I especially recommend the vegetarian plate, with grilled vegetable and a scrumptious grilled cheese. It's nice that they bring some free bruschetta while you're waiting and nobody seem to mind my 4 year old daughter misbehaving. Too bad they don't have a place to sit outside."
