"Quite a disappointment. We expected a top quality experience from a world class museum. Very far from it. We had to wait ten minutes to be shown to our table, which was sticky. No one came to take our order. A request for a virgin mary was met with bemusement, indeed incomprehension. The food when it came the main took 20 minutes was no more than passable; the wine expensive. Oh, and the MD asked us to double check the bill because he thought it was wrong. It was. These days there are quite a few decent restaurants in Oxford. Try them rather than this one."

We had a most enjoyable tea with excellent freshly baked scones. The service was most efficient and friendly with thanks to Josh.

Whilst the view outside was nice and the food good, our waitress was really short tempered with us and made my friend and I feel unwanted.

Food overpriced and poor. Very noisy, couldn’t hear to make conversation. Booked for outside seating but no table service outside. Will not return

Slow service for afternoon tea that’s already prepared. Waited more than half an hour! Sandwiches were dry, scones were cold. At 28 quid, would not visit again. Only good thing was that we got an outdoor table and the weather was lovely.

Lovely food, great service, in a really special environment. A lot of money for afternoon tea! Please sort out those outside tables so the tea stands don't topple and smash on a regular basis, it shouldn't be difficult to find a solution

Excellent our lunch with a couple of friends after visiting the current exhibition. Good food wine was enjoyed by all. Nice table location too just inside by the patio doors. Helpful maitre d waiting kitchen staff too. We will certainly book again when next at the Ashmolean.

The Ashmolean rooftop restaurant is a stellar experience. Museum restaurants can be a little iffy, but this one excels, with an imaginative menu, and beautifully presented and tasty dishes. Kudos to the kitchen team. We also had a very engaging waiter, Joshua, who managed to deliver good service despite a very busy dining room. We were very happy we opted to enjoy lunch here during our first visit to the Ashmolean.

Our American guests were making their first visit to the UK. Sitting outdoors under an umbrella on a perfect sunny day in Oxford, enjoying a bottle of excellent Rose, and a delicious light lunch will be a memory to cherish. Te staff were courteous and helpful, as they were on the first occasion my wife and I enjoyed a meal on the roof terrace: that was on the second day you opened. Nice to be report continuing excellence! Well done!

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
