"We came into the Hotel Adler without booking after discovering that another local restaurant was full, and another still was closed, and as spontaneous visitors were initially doubtful about whether we could get a table. We were also subjected to that subtle extra assessment by the owner when we went in and we thought that perhaps we were not their preferred "type" of people. I was not a German speaker and we were probably less well dressed than those at other tables, having not originally resolved to visit such an expensive restaurant. This initial feeling of being rather too closely and sceptically examined was complemented by my German-speaking partner being made to feel feeling at first rather unwelcome. We very nearly got up and left before ordering. Something seems to have changed in this treatment, however, as we felt more and more comfortable as the excellent meal went on and the double-edged service changed to a more appropriate and accepting treatment by a younger waitress anxious to please. The food could not have been faulted and the wine selection was excellent. It was a high price to pay and a most unfortunate start, but all in all we enjoyed our spontaneous evening. But it is worth warning others not to be too put off when you are not immediately made welcome as spontaneous visitors, but to wait to see if, as in this case, the service improves."

Excellent chef and staff. Silverware not often seen these days. The klassiker rouladen, outstanding. The pumpkin soup tremendous.

We had a business dinner here, enjoyed the privacy of a separate room and a very attentive service. The food was very good, but nothing spectacular over the top. The rack of veal was of excellent quality, the sauce a bit over powering, the potato gratin OK. Wines served complemented the meal. Overall a nice experience.

When you are met by the Chef himself keen to discuss the best ingredients he has that day you know your mouth is about to be delighted. The restaurant boasts a fabulous collection of silver, from platters, coffee and tea pots to the placemats on which our dinner was served. The lobster soup was excellent, rich and creamy; the turbot was light and tasty; the veal steak superb.and the chat with the chef fabulous!

My father and his wife were in Adler 30 years ago for the first and last time. But today for the 85th birthday of my aunt we decided to explore the restaurant again. In one word this restaurant and also the hotel is just top top top. There was really nothing that could have been better. The restaurant has 16 points in the famous guide. If you enjoy the best food and cooking you can get, then Adler is the place to go.

Yes, this is exactly what you want when visiting this part of Germany! I was there as part of a company evening dinner arrangement. Well organised, very very attentative service. I could have stayed longer, wish the bus that came to take us back had come later... No offence, but please remove the thin Wurst/Fleisch starter from the menu. I noted I am the second to comment on it which should be enough. Otherwise the meal and wines were excellent, and I loved the atmosphere. I will definitely come back!

we where 4 to eat.we had more or less the same food, exept the vorspeise.hummersüppchen, kartoffelsuppe, and my husband and i we split a fishsuppe ,which was exellente.we all had a gooseliver terrine, which in ma opinion was not enough liver in it,but i liked the contrast with the sauce, some exautic fruit, maby passion.then 2 persons had beef, filet rossini with truffelsauce.i think that was the best steak i have ever eaten.i belive it was black angus, just great.2 person had entrecote double which was also very good.we will be back, for a spec. occation, because the prices are high, but it was worth it.

During our trips in Germany we have stayed several times in Hotel Restaurant Adler and always enjoyed the best quality food. The chef Hansjörg Wöhrle worked in famous hotels in Switzerland before he opened his restaurant near The Swiss border more than 45 years ago. Maybe one of the few remaining old fashioned restaurants in Germany. The dining room is beautiful with the white linnen, old furniture and everything very well maintained! Friendly staff and excellent service! Whatever you choose from the menu is delicious and the Bisque d'homard was the best we ever had. Great value for money! The hotel Adler, we understood, has a few refurbished rooms ( to expensive)! The cheaper ones are comfortab...

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
