"First visit on a Sunday lunch date. First impressions were good, good car park, quaint pub. Inside was what you would expect, traditional pub with what looked like emphasis on food. Not a long wait and we were seated right next to the serving bar. Order was taken and starter quickly arrived. Hot on the edges, tepid mushrooms, waterery sauce. Decided to not say anything (First date) only to be asked if I finished half way through! Main course, one beef , one pork roast... no flavour, chewy, waterery gravy... real disappointment. Didn’t ask for a desert. All in all? Too rushed, no quality control on the food at all. Service was fine. Could have been a great meal, unfortunately the food was poor, and that was the main reason for going! You know it was bad when your date asks “Who on earth recommended that place?”. Shame."

"We all ordered a variety of dishes from the menu: two roasts (one lamb and one beef), a homemade-looking pie, a New York chicken, liver and bacon, and scampi. Each dish was beautifully presented and served on hot plates. My meal tasted just as delicious as it looked. We decided against taking photos because we were more focused on catching up and enjoying our food—perhaps it's an age thing! Everyone in our group seemed equally pleased with their choices. I have dietary restrictions related to milk and soy, and the staff was more than willing to accommodate my needs and check the ingredients for me. The menu also offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Due to the building's age, there are some steps throughout, and there isn't a dedicated accessible toilet. However, one of the stalls in the ladies' room has grab rails and a raised seat. I can't comment on the men's facilities, but my husband mentioned it felt a bit cramped. We did notice several guests using wheeled walkers, including him. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and hope to return next year."

"We were initially going to get Nandos next door but I realise I wanted something different. When we came in, very nice impressions and we were given a table, lots of wonderful options but unfortunately I ordered the seafood pasta but it had so much chilli in there, I realise that was probably on me not reading the menu but otherwise the starters and drinks were delicious. Will be coming back!"

"We had our first visit for breakfast and it was an excellent experience! The staff was pleasant and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations. We celebrated my wife's 50th birthday, which her brother had arranged as a special treat to kickstart her day. What made it even more memorable was that our family, including our granddaughters, surprised her after breakfast with a customized cake, flowers, and cards. The staff was brilliant; they were very helpful, and the manager even stopped by to chat with us. Initially, we were hesitant to visit because we had heard mixed reviews about the breakfast, but after our experience on June 14th, I can confidently say it was excellent. The value for money was outstanding, and we will definitely be returning! A big thank you to all the employees and management for making this occasion so special."

"Christmas PARTY was no fun. Worst Christmas party ever, with poor quality food. I never expected much, but service and welcome were poor, we arrived At 6 30pm for 7pm start. Staff were not welcoming at all. The bar was understaffed and very small. The drinks were extremely expensive £14 for a can of Guinness and a glass of Prosseco. The starter of crayfish and prawns consists of 1 lettuce leaf slice of tomato and some maryrose covered prawns, all 5 of them. The seabass main was small and dry and served with overcooked carrots and Brussels! I had cheese and biscuits for dessert, the funniest things I have ever seen with 3 small bits of cheese and soggy crackers. The DJ was crammed into the corner, the dance floor was small and just not big enough for the number of people crammed into the room. The night came to a climax with a fight between a couple.of Peterborough Chavs, followed by a visit from 6 police officers as The Bull Hotel had no security staff to brake the fight up or deal with the issues. Over priced, poor service and dreadful food."

"During my 9-day stay in Peterborough, this pub became my favorite spot for food. The 3 small dishes for £15 were fantastic value. I tried them three times and nearly made my way through half of the options. My top pick was the burrata with white bean salad, which I ordered every time. The other two dishes I switched up with each visit: small tacos with pulled pork and mushrooms, and all three variations of tater tots (my favorite was with pulled meat and Buffalo sauce, as well as with chicken and mozzarella). The food was consistently well-prepared and served promptly. This pub is a traditional, rustic establishment with cozy indoor and outdoor seating. They usually have 4 cask ales available, and I frequently went for the Adnams Ghost Ship. They also offer a variety of keg beers and lagers. The service was friendly and efficient. Despite being a popular spot with locals, I always managed to find a seat outside, overlooking Guildhall and Cathedral Square. It's a great choice for high-quality pub food in Peterborough."

"We went as a family for New Year’s Eve and were surprised it wasn’t busier. It took an hour for our food to arrive and the taste was bland. We planned to use our Tesco clubcard vouchers but we’re told we couldn’t use them after 5pm. There was no restrictions on the Tesco site for using them. We probably would not return"

"we were gifted a afternoon tea for 2 ,one word ABYSMAL,it was a **** disgrace to even suggest what we were given even covered half the cost,as for the picture they advertise on the front of the building showing a afternoon tea spread needs reporting to trading standards,it was nothing like it ,certain parts of the picture were blown up to make out that the cakes were alot bigger than they were,no atmosphere,dirty table,no table clothes,no music, nothing,and this was supposed to be a christmas tea,nothing at all to even suggest it was christmas,my wife even had to go and find someone to refill our coffee cups,if any of you want to waste your money on this christmas tea feel free,ive told the experience we received,never ever again,dobbies you need to hang your heads in shame,YOU ARE BLANTENT RIP OFF MERCHANTS!!!"

"We had our baby’s baptism which we had planned for 1 and a half months. When we arrived they changed the room without telling us. We set our room that morning and we had left our cakes in the boxes to ensure no flies would sit on them. When we arrive mid afternoon we had noticed that they had been uncovered and that the cakes had a few flies near. We arrived at 5pm and we did notify them we would like to eat for 6pm while we had photos taken by our photographer. But they rushed us and cattle us in to our room. We had a party of 43. When being served our food, it’s was served table by table which was fine. However, when a table is waiting 15 minutes and everyone else has finished I think that is not acceptable. They did rectify it but it shouldn’t happen. When it came to cutting our cakes they said they would cut and serve them. This never happened. We ended up serving them without plates and forks, which we did ask for in the morning. No members of staff was available and we couldn’t find any. When everyone was leaving a member of staff came over and said “I’m sorry for your experience we quite under staffed”. If you know you have our party, main dinner service and another party in a different room you would think that they would prepare. Finally, you can not be served at the bar when they are serving food because they are that understaffed. Which mean you are then waiting between 20-30 for a drink."

"My wife and I had lunch here on Saturday, and we were very impressed. The restaurant boasts a beautifully designed interior with cozy seating, and plenty of outdoor options as well. We decided to try one of the specials, and we were blown away by both the quality of the food and its stunning presentation. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, guiding us in our dessert choices to help avoid allergens. The only downside was the limited parking lot, but I understand that’s often out of anyone's control. We will definitely be returning with family and friends, and I highly recommend this place to others!"

"I recently came out to eat dinner with my friends and I found the manager to be extremely rude and unfair to two younger staff members and I think it is completely unacceptable when they are trying their best and their hardest to just complete their tasks. The two young girls that were working there were amazing and so polite and made me feel extremely welcome and comfortable. I could not fault them at all! I think the manager goes by the name cristine or cristina? But regardless of her name what I heard and saw from her was horrifying. First of all I caught the old wrinkly woman screaming and shouting at one of the poor girls because she didn’t take one of the tables orders when that girl was incredibly busy taking other tables orders and sorting out the tables food it was clear she had enough on her plate and a lot to do at that time in fact the manager was standing there doing absolutely nothing and could’ve helped the poor girl. With the manager constantly screaming at her waitresses throughout the night it created an unwelcoming and unsettling environment in the restaurant which I don’t think the restaurant deserves. On top of that when I asked for a refill of my drink she took an unusually long time to refill it and then even when it came back it was flat and warm it had seemed as if it had been opened for days and mixed with multiple different drinks. The grain barge deserves a lot more and cannot let one rude old woman ruin its amazing reputation and atmosphere in the restaurant. She needs to go !!!"

"I am at a loss for words. My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant, but we haven't been back recently due to health issues. What has happened here? The staff is rude, lazy, slow, and simply unprofessional. It is clear that the new manager is not setting a good example for the employees. Wearing jeans and a hoodie, looking miserable and purposely ignoring customers because they don't feel like working. It's no wonder there aren't many customers here. I ordered two meals and had to change my order three times because of storage issues. When my food finally arrived, the fries were cold and my onion rings were missing. No one bothered to check on me or offer to fix the mistakes. The prices may be reasonable, but if the food is subpar, the service is unfriendly, and the staff is unprofessional, what's the point? It's a shame, as this place used to be beautiful."

"Thought it would be nice for a few of the mums from school to go for a lunch during the holidays and had heard that The Golden Pheasant had a large play area for the children. of us seemed to overhelm the kitchens capacity and what they turned out can only be described as disgraceful. The service was slow and the young girl that served us was positively mardy. I think she was hung over! The drinks seemed expensive for a small glass of house Shiraz? The food was ok in part but two of us had chicken that wasn't cooked through properly I thought. Generally we won't be in a rush to go back to the pub that the children thought "smelled funny"."

"This place was absolutely brilliant. Came here tonight for my mums birthday, I came 2 hours before the booking with flowers for the table (which were on there upon our arrival) and a cake which they brought out on my request when ready so hats off to them for that as it.made the night that extra bit special. The food was to die for, a choice of Chinese Indian, English, Italian and some lovely deserts. The decor inside was modern but subtle without trying to be posh. Would recommend to all my friends and family and anyone looking for a place for that special occasion whether it's a birthday or a baby gender reveal. I'll even be coming back here for a normal meal. Just stop reading this comment and book a table and devour!"

"I enjoyed visiting here what will probably be the first of many! regardless of the friendly welcome and brilliant service, the vegan menu is huge and full of variety. we have talked to our server that is vegan and has influenced the cook that has picked up the challenge of converting and shaping vegan versions of their authentic dishes. we had to start the common vegan cutlery plate, with full and tasteful sweet mais, roasted flower cabbage, mushrooms, paprika and wobble, as well as a lush extra that we think was soy bites. whatever it was, it was more! everyone was beautifully spiced while he was still true what they were. I feed on vegan options that 'deeply rides everything' so this was a refreshing change! for my first I enjoyed the soy-kema mutta with a tandoor frotti, again delicious! my friend had a non- vegan option and was equally impressed, but he regretted that he did not try anything from the vegan menu as it looked so good. if they are looking for an authentic Indian without going to the city, this place fits perfectly to the bill! highly recommended."

"Avoid this place at all costs! Our experience was awful. The food was terrible and we had to ask for it to be made correctly twice, and it was still wrong. They even overcharged us and did not adhere to the menu prices. They charged us for larger portions than we ordered and even for items we did not receive. The receipt was barely legible, scribbled on a scrap of paper. They only accept cash and refused to give us a proper receipt. We will not be returning to this restaurant."
