"I have known this restaurant for a long time under different ownership. The current establishment is nice and tidy, with a serving bar where you can see the staff and place your order. The coffee is excellent and the food is just as good. I ordered a breakfast roll which was top-notch. The staff are friendly and helpful. The decor is nice and the seats are comfortable. Be cautious of the steep step down into the lounge area. They also have an upstairs area. Overall, it is a first-class place to relax."

"Booked for lunch, great Sunday roast again but had a couple of big groups in which is fine but staff seemed to pay more attention to the large groups rather than all guests. We go often as local but didn’t once get spoken to once after meal served and after waiting for over 30 minutes from finishing meal still no waiting staff to clear away dishes or offer dessert menu despite the waiting staff checking on the big group of diners so got up and paid and left. More attention needs to be paid to all customers however small the group."

"a stunning small pub in a small village. this pub is a hub for the locals with a lot of villagers who use it to meet and enjoy eating. the food that came out of the kitchen looked out and melted amazingly when I worked in the kitchen, you could see how the cooks take the time to make every dish look perfectly presented. my taste buds were on overdrive. so much that I had to order chips and they did not disappoint as usual my work took me right into the heart of the building and it was exceptionally clean and tidy throughout. all the staff were really friendly and chloe the rental company should be really proud that their pub restaurant is presented so well in this idyllic little village. I would highly recommend if in weymouth area."

"The staff were very attentive and professional. I loved the fact that, because we'd arrived early, we were warned that we'd probably have a 30 minute wait. Fair enough we knew where we stood. The Sunday Roast was great. My friend and I had...nut roast and it was very tasty, served on lovely hot plates and accompanied with a vast array of vegetables carrots, broccoli, parsnips, potatoes. In summary, very tasty and all served in a lovely, cosy, Sunday style' atmosphere. The pub was packed a reflection of the good foo. We really enjoyed our food."

"Walked in by accident as we were a bit peckish and liked one of the specials advertised in the window. What an absolute find ! The special of lamb neck medallions cooked perfectly pink was just gorgeous, lovingly placed on a bed of salad and a thick slice of toasted bread, cooked by the team that morning. The rest of the menu was fantastic a mix of traditional breakfast for the early comers and a super menu of campfire classics (I had the smoked haddock), sandwiches, fresh hash brown mix ups and bowl of mash based mix ups, all with local Dorset produce and washed down with some locally roasted coffee. This is all cooked with love and good cheer in full view by the manager, who told me he has been at this site for 10 years. We had a good chat about food and our likes and dislikes. I loved his approach sticking with good combinations of familiar local ingredients with the odd twist. The rest of his serving team was friendly and efficient and there was a real banter going on the sort that is experienced only in happy places of work. Absolutely a must visit if you are hungry. So, if you thought you never had a reason to go to Blandford Forum, you do now."

"This was our second visit and excellent. The pub is lovely, the welcome warm, with very efficient staff in the dining room. My Brixham calamari was superb , the beer batter was light as a feather and crispy with tender tasty squid, just yummy. My venison ragu was delicious and my husband said his slow cooked pork with the black pudding mash was excellent. We did not have desserts or coffee. We are already looking forward to our next visit. This is a very well run pub with a restaurant. Well done to all the lovely staff."

"The Saxon Inn is a truly beautiful country inn, full of charm and character. Each little area, corner and nook is styled and curated to perfection, and the special little attention to details really elevates this place above what you'd normally expect from a country inn. Every turn reveals an almost lnstagrammable moment you'd want to capture. The welcome from the hosts Sarah and Richard couldn't have been more friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They really were consummate hosts and you could just tell they'd put their heart and soul into place and genuinely cared that their customers not only enjoyed their stay, but loved their stay. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious and the fresh fruit and doorstep toast was amazing. Real coffee, real butter, and locally sourced products made this a breakfast to remember. My partner and I didn't have an evening meal at the Inn when we arrived but really regretted it when we tasted the breakfast the following morning. To add even more character to the place, the Saxon Inn also has two other permanent residents, the beautifully-docile and aloof Reggie (a gorgeous whippet), and Herman , an independent little dachshund who parades around wearing a bandana. Overall, it's a superb place to stay and eat. We'd highly recommend it."

"What a master! The finest Italian, family run, closely guarded secret in Gillingham. If you have not eaten here then you have missed the best!! So what 's so clever? It 's the taste and flavours from little additions which turn a standard offering into something fantastic. Try any pasta: see what is created, the tastes are VERY different to the usual bland offerings. Try the tagliatelle Borgia: tagliatelle with garlic, panchetta shrimp, mushroom in a cream sauce topped with parmigiano and black pepper, with a touch of curry powder, or the Buffalo pizza with everything you can think of on it. These pizzas are simply an elevation of a simple stock item to Michelin masterpieces. We love consistency and perfectly cooked squid rings, succulent, not tough. Daily changing specials and deserts as well as generous a la carte . You will not go hungry here, and may leave with some of your pizza in a box!! House wines are similarly well above the ordinary. Why would they let you drink ordinary with such food? It is simply not this family 's way. Ok, compliment my choice later!!"

"Nice little cafe. Love that it is dog friendly. We had a very nice lunch here (with dog). Cakes looked very delishish but we were full after our tasty open sandwiches so resisted them. But really look forward to trying some on another visit. It was very busy on a late Saturday afternoon lunch time and we were lucky to get a table. Staff were very friendly and we were served quickly. Update: Had another lunch here with friends and our dog. Lovely sandwiches and paninis. Excellent coffee and tasty luscious milkshakes and other drinks. Staff all very friendly and service was excellent. Great place to stop for a bite."

"I’ve had the misfortune of two successive meals at this hotel, entertaining visiting friends and family, and embarrassingly on both occasions the meat was completely inedible and was returned to the kitchen. Vegetables were underdone and the plate/food generally was far from hot. I for one certainly won’t be returning any time soon which is a shame as the atmosphere/decor suggested a better experience."

"Just back from an overnight stay at the Grosvenor Arms and we were delighted. First time visit to Shaftesbury. Found the Grosvenor online, liked the look of it and we weren 't disappointed. We arrived really early but received a warm welcome and to our surprise our room was already available. The room itself was perfect. Spacious , clean , with a big comfortable bed , plenty of wardrobe space and one of the best UK hotel bedrooms I 've come across. A fantastic big, powerful shower. Excellent toiletries and great towels. The attention to detail in the room and bathroom were first class and a credit to the management and staff. We had booked the 'dine and stay ' package so had dinner in the hotel too. Food was nice though my only feedback is that the choice of main meals is a bit limited. Breakfast this morning was great, freshly cooked with pastries, yogurt, jams, and cereals all available too. All in all a lovely break for us and a strong recommendation for anyone staying in Shaftesbury of surrounding area."

"Update on stay here Tues 7th, 10 days on: excellent!! Very good . Many thanks. Nice coffee food kind friendly warm pleasant service. And from good young staff working kindly and well seems to me, each doing. Good team get on ways, kindly doing, persevering so too. (The toilet could do with bit of an update and whoever cleans it being more sharp on the ball to make it all sweet spick and span... like the rest of the lovely place is..! This is my beliefs and review of here. And will hope to come back more. Visited it 7 years ago on a stay. Still going strong. ! That says something. Appreciated by locals community too very much it seems. Friendly to all, welcoming spirit way too, it seems, I find. Thank you. On my stay here very nice to find, again anew. Very good! Much appreciated of a Sunday morning such polite service even if young staff not just quite so sharply with it, learning the good ropes. But all very polite and in the patient atmosphere we all need. "This review is for the restaurant that we visited on Saturday 24 February 2024. We had a very pleasant waitress who guided us to our table. I ordered liver and bacon with vegetables. The liver was overcooked and the bacon was very tough and inedible. Parsnips were totally burnt and akin to charcoal pieces, totally inedible. All of the small baby carrots showed signs of being burnt and scorched. My wife's bowl of chicken with salad came with a rasher of bacon, which again was very tough and inedible. We were the only customers in the restaurant. The question is how can the chef during the quiet period, manages to burn the food and then dishes up the food and says that it's ready to go to the customers table. Obviously no care for customer service nor any pride in their work. Will not go back and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone."

"On a Saturday night, this restaurant seems to be popular among locals. I was somewhat disappointed by the limited menu options and the lack of mention of any specials by our waitress. Despite this, the flatbread we shared and the burgers we ordered were surprisingly delicious, much better than their descriptions on the menu. The flatbread was undercooked, but we ate it anyway after waiting 45 minutes for our food. Unfortunately, we were seated right next to the constantly open door, making us quite cold. The staff repeatedly ignored the open door even as I got up to close it myself. It took two requests to finally receive our bill. I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic date, but for a spontaneous meet-up with friends in a bustling atmosphere, it could be ideal. Just be aware that the burgers are priced at £19 each."

"The chocolate mint cake was a really interesting combination- we couldn't work out what it was, but the fact my hubby polished it of in a few minutes suggests it was good. Tea and coffee was brewed properly and our stop here on our drive home from Dorset was a well rewarded. Staff and Terry have been kind and soo helpful since I left my belongings behind! "The Museum Inn, located in Farnham, Nr. Blandford Forum, Dorset, DT11 8DE We booked late on Friday night and only one room was available so it was meant to be! We arrived around 5pm and were greeted by friendly staff, shown to our room The Catch and made a reservation for dinner, luckily they still had spaces for dinner but it is advised to book in advance. Lovely spacious room and bathroom, kettle, teas, coffees and bottled water supplied. I have to say I fell in love with the hand wash and hand cream, I have already purchased some for home, the brand is called Bramley and the scent is Lavender, Geranium and Petitgrain. The bed is probably the most comfortable we have ever slept in that is not our own, soft feather pillows that were just right! Dinner was a three course meal and it was delicious, we took 2 hours to eat but never felt rushed or like we were waiting too long between courses. Starters: Ham hock terrine with sourdough toast and Prawn, potato and crayfish fishcakes. Mains: Burger and Steak Ale pie Desserts: Chocolate Brownie with cherry sorbet. Biscoff donuts with pumpkin pie ice cream Drinks: Poretti lager and Cherry cocktail. Breakfast: Eggs Royale and Smashed avocado, poached egg and bacon, absolutely scrumilicious! Big thanks to Amanda who served us this morning and checked us out. Highly recommend staying and eating here and we will 100% be back again! Safe travels! The Allsebrooks x"

"I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I had dinner here and it costed around £40–50 per person. The food was excellent, I give it a 5-star rating. The service was also top-notch, I would rate it a 5 as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, I would also give it a 5. Some of the recommended dishes include Vegetable Balti, Coconut Rice, Chapati, Assorted Pickles, Onion Bhaji, Chicken Biryani, Cauliflower Bhaji, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Jaipuri, Chicken or Lamb Tikka Masala, and Butter Chicken."
