"Deciding to visit another town which I had been to many years ago, I went by train, lucky me! After enjoying a wander around the many individual shops, the market hall and old buildings, i decided to have a substantial snack and this place had caught my eye on the tourist information website. It was not YET raining and very busy and pleasant inside the restaurant down steps by the chapel. I had walked through a courtyard garden to the entrance and asked if I could eat outside...I always prefer that to busy chatter indoors. Very pleasant staff laid a table for me in the courtyard, which had many trees so tha I escaped the rain. I enjoyed a frittata of roast new potatoes, courgettes, violas!!, beet etc. and a glass of wine, followed by a soft and delicious carrot cake. The price was fine..£12.00 for the frittata, the service was good and most importantly, the food was excellent. I shall certainly be taking the train again......especially as the menu changes and there are some new , exciting tastes on it."

"Staff were lovely and very welcoming. The food we had to wait a little longer than we normally would but it absolutely worth the wait as the quality of what we ordered was superb. I would rather wait slightly longer to have the quality and taste of food that we received than rushed and be of poor flavour. The size of the meals were great, so we asked for the remainder of the meals to be packed up to take home which they did immediately for us. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and we will be back soon. Was a lovely night out for 6 of us"

"Terrible romantic meal with my wife on her Birthday yesterday at this establishment. Ordered their house burger which to be honest in itself was just a plain roll side by side with a beef burger and bacon with the biggest lump of melted cheese you have ever seen chucked on top but this was not the issue which was an uncooked Burger with blood coming out of it at one stage I thought it was going to jump off the plate and stand in line ready for milking as so raw. I discreetly mentioned to the bar man who I have to say is the only polite and helpful member of staff there I spoke to. He went and notified the chef and came back and apologized and said We will not charge you for the new meal when it comes back out , by the time it came out my wife had finished hers so we both ended up eating alone. There was no apology from the female waiter when the plate was returned to the table. Once I finished I was then told I would now be paying the full price.I asked to speak to the manager who then informed me Well as you finished eating the returned meal you would pay normal price another plate of food from another table was taken back into the kitchen. After arguing my case she reluctantly agreed to knock £5 off but after stating you should be checking food before it leaves the kitchen I ended up paying half price for a substandard meal that we could have sat on different tables as certainly did not have a romantic meal watching each other eat ours in turns. I found the manager very rude and not once did she apologize as the only one came from the Bartender. If you want an uncooked substandard burger with no apology then the Kings Head in Usk is for you."

"Excellent and understated little cafe with really good proper coffee and homemade cakes. The lunch menu is small usually soup, a savoury tart of some kind, salad, toasted sandwiches or equivalent but beautifully made. In summer it's lovely to sit in their delightful garden behind the cafe where they grow herbs, veg and native flowers."

"Last Saturday my family of five went to the Knight of Bengal and three different main meals were ordered. The Alum family has endured great challenges due to Covid but have certainly not dropped the first class standards in the quality and taste of the meals. Every member of my family enjoyed their choice of meal. So encouraging to see the restaurant full. Cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful restaurant. Thank you Alum and Koffe. Mr.Jones"

"A big thank you to Chloe, Jim, Margie, and the entire team for consistently delivering amazing food, a great drink selection, a fantastic atmosphere, and live music. We recently enjoyed a Sunday roast for a party of 10, and it was delicious with all the trimmings. The service was top-notch as always. Additionally, my husband and I had our wedding in the village this summer, and the pub warmly welcomed our guests who stopped by upon arrival. The pub hosted us for another roast dinner with around 30 guests, and everyone was equally impressed by the meal. The live music in the afternoon was also wonderful. The Angel Inn is truly the best pub around!"

"Sprokwobbles has a charming interior and a great atmosphere. It is clearly popular among locals, creating a sense of community. The coffee and carrot cake were delicious, and the music was not the typical cafe background noise. The service was fast and efficient. However, there was a bit of confusion when inquiring about the bacon sourcing. Additionally, a discussion about milk prices led to a misunderstanding with a staff member, who defended their pricing assuming we were talking about oatmilk, when we were actually discussing the impact of cheap dairy milk on animal welfare and small farmers. Overall, despite some minor misunderstandings, the experience was enjoyable."

"Fabulous eatery and bar on the main street through Usk. Linked to the White Hare Distillery so the gins are amazing. Plenty of choice for other beverages if gin not your tipple. Staff are the friendliest you will ever come across and the food platters are authenticity Greek, very generous and very tasty. Great atmosphere, great pub. Enough said."

"We came across this delightful cafe when stopping off in Chepstow on our return home from holiday. First impressions were great as it was well organised and very clean. The array of fresh juices on offer is fantastic and the food is all freshly prepared. We ordered a tuna melt, bacon roll and egg mayonnaise sandwich. Everything was so fresh and flavoursome with generous fillings. There was a small salad bar and various sandwich options in the take away section. The coffee, tea and fresh juices were excellent likewise the apple pie. Service was friendly too. We were so thrilled to find this place! We will definitely be back very highly recommended."

"We were camping up the road and the campsite owners recommended here for a meal pint while we were here from Manchester. Definitely glad we tried it, so much so we went on the Friday night and again on the Saturday. Portion sizes are huge .. we learnt our lesson for day 2 and didn’t have a starter but saved room for dessert. On night one (Friday) for starter I had pate and my husband had Thai chicken fritters portion was the size of a main meal but absolutely delicious. Then for main it was scampi and carbonara again portion was huge but was full of flavour and delicious husband said was the best carbonara he’s had outside of an Italian. On night 2 (Saturday) I had bbq chicken baguette and husband had lasagne and garlic bread. Again , portions were huge but so so good! Managed to save room for dessert biscoff cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding My only slight complaint was the amount of time between courses waiting to be asked if we wanted another drink … on the first night we only had 2 drinks in 3 hours even though was only a few other people in. It’s like they don’t want to mither you but it leave you alone abit too much. Also, on the Friday night we said we would be back in tomorrow night (the Saturday). And when we got there on Saturday the man said they were fully booked up but had a table in the bar… I feel he could of said we need to book on the Friday. Husband was a big fan of the Snowdon Lager shame we live 2 hours away else we would be here more often but we will definitely be back next time we are in the area."

"Abergavenny is known for its food scene, but it can be difficult for vegetarians and vegans to find options. That's why Mezze Me is a welcome discovery. I mistakenly thought we needed three mezze dishes per person, so we ended up with a lot of food for just two people - hummus, sigara boregi, falafel, piyaz, acili ezme, and Turkish lentil soup. Despite the abundance, everything was delicious, particularly the spicy tomato acili ezme with the white beans of the piyaz. The service was efficient and friendly, and they offer a good selection of beers, like Camden IPA. If the weather cooperates, you can even sit outside on Frogmore Street. Just be prepared for the typical Welsh rain!"

"A lovely little local pub that feels like you are out in the sticks, but actually very accessible from Caerleon, Usk and the A40. Less than 10 minutes drive from Raglan Castle. Very welcoming Landlord and bar staff. I called in on the off chance for a little bit of food as I was alone on a road trip and despite being short on a member of kitchen staff, they still fitted me in for food. No exaggeration!, as a vegetarian, I struggle to find a pub or even a restaurant that actually wants to serve up good food for the veggie and only put their all in to the meat dishes however this pub food was the best food I have had! Their chips were stunning and I had the Mushroom Stroganoff (which wasn 't on the menu but I was offered that as an alternative to the beef version) and it was absolutely gorgeous, freshly home made and not reheated stodge! Huge decent serving with loads of veggies, rice and chips! All at a very, very decent price!!! I would highly recommend this surprising little gem of a place! I certainly will be back with my husband for that gorgeous food. DRINKS Again, very clean and tasty beer and ales on draught also at a very affordable price! Thanks to The Hall Inn for their great hospitality."

"We stopped here for some food after seeing good reviews. The restaurant side was quiet initially, getting very busy by the time we left. I had cauliflower soup to start, which I found quite bland, but nice after a lot of salt and pepper. The bread was lovely but a lack of butter was annoying. My partner had the charcuterie board which was huge for a starter but the meat and olives were nothing special. We then had the 24 hour cooked lamb shoulder, which was so tough we could barely cut through it, even after asking for steak knives. The few bits I ate were stringy and tough and left me chewing for so long my jaw ached and I had to, embarrassingly, evacuate the mouthful into my napkin. I also nearly choked on a piece after a stringy bit got caught in my tooth and a piece of meat went halfway down my throat, causing a 20 second panic where I couldn’t breathe! We gave up on them and they looked barely touched when our plates were collected. We explained to the lovely waiter who said he would feed this back to the chef. The potatoes and veg were lovely though. We had a brownie and ice cream for pudding, which took forever to arrive. We paid at the bar for speed, no discount was offered despite us not eating 95% of our main courses. The waiters were very lovely though. Sad to say we won’t be returning due to this experience."

"We have been here to eat a few times over the years and so thought we’d stay overnight. However, the hotel is clearly understaffed although the staff there were working hard and were very welcoming. Our room had a new bathroom and some basic redecoration...but the furniture was old and shabby. The wardrobe doors didn’t shut easily, the bed head was broken. Although we realised that this is an older building, and that could be part of its charm, generally the whole hotel felt tired and in need of refurbishment and updating. The bar, gardens and restaurant were comfy and clean, our evening meal was nice enough and breakfast was adequate."

"We visited here for a drink in the afternoon with a view to booking a table for a meal the following evening. Upon entering the place the staff were all stood together and it was all very disorganized and quite uncomfortable for us. Anyway we asked if we could have a table for a drink and we were quite abruptly told yes but only in the garden, not inside even though all the tables were unoccupied. I then asked about availability for a table the following evening and again in an abrupt manner we were told no, without even asking a time or checking the latest availability. We felt as though we weren't welcome and left without having a drink. I checked on the online booking system and tables were available at 17.45 which would have been perfect for us. Terrible experience with awful staff This is now the Wild Hare Hotel."

"I am a middle-aged man who usually dislikes going out for coffee. My wife and I have had many arguments in the past because she loves going out for coffee, cake, or lunch while I prefer to stay home. However, Scrumptious has changed my mind. Now, when my wife suggests going out for coffee, I am excited. They offer a delicious selection of food. Their falafel is spiced and delightful, and their Welsh rarebit is made with strong cheddar and just the right amount of mustard. And the cakes! Oh my goodness, I always enjoy the cakes they have to offer. Every time I go back, they have a different cake selection, so the lemon drizzle, mince tart, cherry tart, cherry bakewell flapjack, or carrot cake that I had the week before is no longer available. I am initially disappointed, but then Rachel brings out the new cake of the week, which becomes my new favorite. We have also ordered several celebration cakes from them, and they have all been amazing. To have converted me into enjoying going out for coffee is truly miraculous."

"We dined here on Saturday and had the most fabulous time, again! The restaurant was full and cosy on a really cold night. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and as ever the food was fantastic. The chef/owner is not only cooking but pops in and out of the restaurant to make sure everyone is happy and has enough to eat. She offered to wrap up what we couldn’t finish and even topped it up so we had more to take home, and gave us a new year gift. She is such a kind and generous lady and it is so clear how much passion she has. We love it here so much. Do not leave Monmouth without eating here!"

"5 out of 5! We booked last minute to celebrate a family occasion. We were greeted warmly and enjoyed a delicious dinner, of which every mouthful tasted homemade and full of flavour. Portions were generous (we boxed up to take home left overs, thank you! and service was efficient and friendly. Puddings were also homemade and truly tasty! Our special guests were also spoiled by the landlords on their special anniversary day; the thank you Highly recommended to anyone in the area for a special occasion or for those just wanting a day off from cooking!"

"Arrived a little early and received a very warm welcome. Restaurant was a little quiet so we received a lot of attention. Ordered a few drinks and then starters which were beautifully cooked. Then on to the mains, my party of four all agreed the food was outstanding, I like a very hot curry and the chicken tikka phall was stunning, among the best I’ve had in over 25 years. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and are already planning to visit again for a friends upcoming birthday. Abdul, who was looking after us is a lovely character. See you soon. J."
