"Not a great experience. The building itself is a charming oldie worldie structure, but it feels tired and like it needs some TLC. We booked food for 7.15pm. It is pretty expensive and the menu is limited. Cheapest bottle of wine was c.£26 (remember it is a pub at the end of the day). We eventually got served our food over an hour later. They did explain they had a big party in and as a result, a fair amount of the menu had sold out (including what we both wanted). They did automatically discount the bill, which is fair enough. The customer service was mixed. It was ok in the evening. However, at breakfast the young lad was pleasant enough. The lady, however, barely spoke to us, let alone a ‘good morning’. No explanation of breakfast or where anything was. You order your hot food the night before, but there is a table set out for cereal and juice etc. in the adjacent room. However, unless you’re informed, you wouldn’t know. We took our lead from others in the room and eventually found the set up. No bread or juice had been restocked, so I had to ask the lady. No response or polite acknowledgment given whatsoever, although she did refill it I guess, so a win there. My feelings started with not wanting to bother them too much, to then becoming more irritated with the complete lack of acknowledgement or politeness. Anyone would think they were doing me a favour. The room was pretty standard. However, there was an intermittent loud raking type noise throughout the night. No idea what it was but it was horrible, resulting in a disturbed night sleep. Won’t be back."

"We booked to go here as part of an activity weekend away for a stag party. We preordered an evening meal. The food was prepared and served in really good time and was ok for pub food. More care could have been taken with some of the food (chips a bit undercooked and steak a bit overcooked etc), but it was perfectly fine after a busy day of activities. Whilst I appreciate we were a ‘stag party’ of 15 can set people eyes rolling and perhaps make people a bit apprehensive as a group we were well behaved and sober. This biggest and probably only indicator that we were a stag group was the stag was carrying his inflatable future wife dressed as a pink power ranger. The pub is lovely, the people less so. On arrival it was like the scene from American Werewolf when they walk into the locals only boozer. A drunk older man at the bar stood there glaring us up and down, a group of three very young looking males next to him began to talk about about us and behave in a weird passive aggressive manner. Sadly after a couple of decades as a police officer I developed the knack of spotting trouble makers and these ‘boys’ appeared upset that we were on their turf. The bar staff and possibly the landlady weren’t much better. When asked if we wanted to order drinks before we went through to the dining area I replied ‘can we take a seat first’ mainly because I wanted to see what drinks were on offer. I received no response and they just asked another one of our group the same question. When seated opposite a possible family they started staring and talking about us. It was really strange. They were saying things like ‘oh look there’s 15 of them’, ‘look at him’. On returning to the bar I was served by who I think may be the landlady. At the end of the transaction I said thank you very much only to get a blank stare and she turned and walked away. A couple of our group went outside to vape and came quickly back stating we shouldn’t talk to the locals. Afterwards I was told that the group of three at the bar had become a larger group and were acting in the same way again. We ate and left. Whilst this may all seem quite trivial and the establishment may come back with ‘a reason’ or ‘version of events’ I wanted to let future travellers and the owners know and reflect on this. Myself and many of the group are well travelled and rarely experience a reception like this. We were made by locals and staff to feel unwelcome and as if we had no right being there. Please take this on board and learn."

"On arrival we inspected our beds, the pillow cases were very stained and on closer inspection the actual pillows were brown with stains and hairs on the sheets. We called for the manager who asked us if we wanted to change rooms or have the bed changed we opted to have the bed changed, we then went out. When we got back we noticed the bed had been changed. We wanted ice to go in our drinks opening the fridge the freezer compartment was solid see attached. Went to make cups of coffee found that the coffee sachets provided had been there so long that the coffee inside them had crystallised and was solid and black see attached.Curtains dragging on the floor see attached. In the morning removing the plug in the bathroom sink found it blocked with lots of hair and slime see pics attached. Couldn’t use spare toilet roll as it was placed on the toilet scrubbing brush which was brown and filthy. So contacted management was told no one available until three that afternoon so I demanded to either speak to the manager or the owner ASAP after about ten to fifteen minutes the owner arrived so I showed her what we had found, she was apologetic as I explained that this was not acceptable in an establishment of this standard and the price we had paid, so we went to pay and the young lady told us they had taken the drinks off because of the problem we had encountered on arrival which was £8. 45 so I paid the bill which had been reduced to £90.00 and left. Other staff very polite."
