"Visited today with my partner and our 4 children. Don't think the kids have ever saw or tasted a hotdog as big or delicious. Our burgers were huge, so juicy and amazing value. Full on flavour so very glad we stopped by. Lovely staff and a great friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend if you are a meat lover. Thanks for helping make our day trip to the beach more memorable."

"Just had our office Christmas lunch at the Puffin. The food was outstanding and the level of service exemplary. Nice ambiance and decor, with comfortable seating. Whisky snug through the back is fantastice with a telephone box whisky cabinet. Great value for mony as well. Exceelent day.....thank you."

"we had one standing on the back of the restaurant, but we found it very loud, yes it was a whole house, but we think we will not sit there again. the menu was so hard to choose, but we had garnelen gamberatti for...Starter, which were beautifully presented. the main thing were pizza, calzone, wow a Calamari court! we also had a common green salad. all very tasty. one chose a desert of his favorite a tiramasui that was slightly delicious. for drinks we chose a dirty martini that I always have here, we had 2 bottles of red wine. the waiters were attentive so a good night and a festively enjoyed by all!"

"Fantastic dinner on first day of festive menu. The smoked salmon and prawn cocktail was lovely take on the traditional prawn cocktail . Salmon and prawns were both big and fresh. Main course was perfect too and very juicy . Tatties , sprouts and carrots...cooked to perfection too. Wonderful service; extremely attentive but not in your face. Big thumbs up from us and it’s back to its best . I’m just disappointed I never tried the feather blade for mains as it looked lovely , but I couldn’t have everything . Maybe next time . Highly recommended."

"We chose this restaurant for our 50th wedding anniversary as we were married close by in Nth Berwick. The initial impression of the restaurant and setting was excellent. Our table was perfect and overlooked the golf course. We were given the menu and wine list and my wife requested a vegetarian option which was on a separate menu, but with limited choice. We chose our wine from the list but was informed that it was not available so we chose another recommended by the waiter. The wine was acceptable but not the one we wanted. The description of my starter, a seafood concoction, was detailed and very long unfortunately the dish itself was minuscule and consequently difficult to judge whether it was good or not . My wife 's starter was a cheese souffle and excellent. I chose duck breast for the main course and requested that it was just pink. I was assured it would be. The dish arrived with two very rare slabs of meat on something it looked and tasted awful. My wife ordered a cheese gnocchi with a poached hen 's yolk. Luckily we had the description otherwise we would have had no idea what it was. The dish was most unattractive and could not be described as a 'main ' course. She left most of it, the little there was, as it was just unappetizing. For pudding I chose a lemon tart which was very good and my wife had a selection of cheeses to make up for her awful main course. The cheeses were very acceptable. We did not stay for coffee or after dinner drinks as we just wanted to leave. Our overall impression therefore was of extreme disappointment. We were looking forward to an excellent dinner to celebrate our anniversary and the evening was ruined. We have eaten in the Roux restaurant in Bray and that was, as it should be, very good. Luckily the following evening we went to a 'pop up ' restaurant in a delicatessen in Nth Berwick and the complete meal for both of us was truly excellent. We would not return to Grey walls."

"What a find on our recent visits to Gullane. We went three times whilst on holiday nearby. Dog friendly. We were made to feel very welcome. The food is superb. The staff are all very nice and pleasant to deal with. Unfortunately on our last visit our golden retriever puppy Bella became ill after drinking a lot of salt water on the beach so we had to make a hasty departure. The staff were so concerned and looked up details of a nearby vet. Fortunately Bella recovered after treatment from the Vet in Macmerry. I would certainly recommend this cafe. It seemed to be used by local residents which is always a good sign. Will definitely visit again if we are in the area. The scones are amazing."

"Amazing food and the best soup I’ve ever tasted. It’s a shame that such a lovely place had such dreadful service. There was one man, brown hair and glasses, looked about 20s who was serving us. Upon walking in he rudely said there were no tables, we said that’s fine and we could wait. There was a couple waiting ahead of us but we were more than happy to wait as we’ve been here many times and have had no issues before. The server said “fine” and was generally rude to the idea of us waiting for a table. Once we were sat down, he took our order hurriedly and went off. He practically threw the water on the table and walked away. When we went to pay he ignored us while he was standing and doing nothing, leaving his other coworker to take our payment. All the other staff that work at JPs are lovely and have consistently good service, so I would be doing a disservice to say all service there is bad as that is simply not true. It was just one member of staff that was rude and that does not reflect the whole of JPs. I would highly encourage this one member of staff to take a minute to reflect on his service and improve himself."

"Gurkhas is a fantastic establishment! The food is authentic with staff making great recommendations on options. The service is friendly and attentive with staff knowing when to interrupt and when to let you enjoy your meal. The restaurant has good pacing between starters, entrees and mains. The food itself is incredible all the way from sauces with papadums through to mains, with amazing Nepalese tea to finish. Treat yourself to a great meal at Gurkhas!"

"Booked in plenty weeks advance for a 30th... was asked to male choices for food and send a week early... all guests chose a starter and a main, however only 4 received starter, and the service was scattered with this as well one was received amd then 10 mins later another 2 and so on, on arrival of my main course I alerted the staff member that some were still waiting on starters to be told oh right well, sorry and have my main placed infront of me as if I had no choice but to just settle for that. When paying the service again from the staff was poor. Won 't be back for food."

"this must be one of the Scottish best Indian restaurants. amazing eating, with friendly staff who are very helpful to explain every dish and its origin. the restaurant is specialized in bangladesch cuisine, but many other dishes are available from their very extensive menu. we were met and welcomed by the owner, ali who felt very welcome to show us a comfortable table. menus and drinks were delivered immediately, while one of the waiters helped with explanations about the dishes we chose. both classes came with perfect timing. we chose bengali shish kebab and meat samosa as starter, followed by south indian chicken, and naga lamb for the main. instead of a simple rice dish we ordered prawn biriani. the whole food was just raised. I would definitely recommend visiting. a clear 10/10"

"This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We used to dine here 4 to 6 times a month. However, the new staff seems to have a strong focus on upselling. We were recently turned away for lunch, being told there were no available tables but were offered high bar stools instead. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty with many tables still unoccupied when we left. On another occasion, we visited as part of a family group. While our drinks were served promptly, it took 25 minutes for someone to take our food order. It seems like there may have been a change in ownership, as there is a noticeable difference in the service provided. The most disappointing part was overhearing an elderly couple at the next table complain about their hard bread, only to be told by the waiter that it was supposed to be hard because it was sourdough. It would have been nice to see more effort put into making their experience better."

"I was really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant as I had been looking forward to trying their takeaway. I placed an order through the app for "as soon as possible" but it ended up taking an hour and forty minutes to arrive. My partner and I selected two tiffin boxes for 2, which were £25 each. When the food finally arrived, we were informed that they were out of daal, so they couldn't make two of the main dansak courses we had ordered. They substituted with two other curries and apologized sincerely, but unfortunately, my prawn curry was disappointing. It was thin, watery, and lacked flavor, with overcooked prawns. It's possible that we just caught them on a bad day, but I don't think I would return."

"Beautiful meal here. The baked potatoes are cooked to perfection and the salads are the best by far. Awesome salad dressing!! The service is great with such happy friendly staff adding to an already lovely calm atmosphere. Beautiful views of the fields as you...sit chatting, eating and chilling. They have soya milk so their cappuccino was spot on. Didn’t have a cake this time but all the times I’ve been before I’ve never been disappointed. Staff all follow covid guidelines so you feel safe being there. They have masks on and floors marked. Can’t wait to return soon. They have parking for disabled right at the front so not too far to the door. Wheelchairs can easily access it and their are disabled toilets. There is a shop area selling gardening Equiptment and plants/flowers/furniture etc but also another area selling jewellery/ cards/bird food and bird food holders etc It’s a great place for catching up with friends even if it’s just for coffee and cake. Their selection is good and meant to add that their main meal choices are a great mixture too and enough to cover everybody’s taste buds. Had a lovely lunch with my friend and look forward to coming back very soon."

"My boyfriend and I popped in curious to try this recently refurbed addition to Tranent . It looks the part , contemporary tiled open plan kitchen , neon signs , gold mirrors , vintage Italian pictures . Our waitress was spot on smart relaxed and friendly . We ordered a beer , and three staters to share arancini ballls , side salad , prawn cocktail , bruschetta and a reasonable priced side salad at 3.50 . The total bill including tip £37.00 . In summer I’m sure the window seat would be lovely but in January it was so cold we both kept our coats on . The Arancini were nice well made , moist ,crisp on the outside prawn cocktail particularly good large juicy prawns with avocado and a very nice mild Marie Rose sauce . The bruschetta loaded with fresh tomatoes but perhaps a little too much oil and balsamic . This is probably the best place to eat but we thought over priced for the location, if they reduced the prices by 10 percentage and turned the heating up I suspect there would be far more bums on seats enjoying this restaurant which aims to be a contender against other Italian restaurants within a 10 mile radius ."

"A most intriguing one night stay. This was my first visit this wee gem of a Tavern and restaurant, hidden from sight in Haddington ! Welcoming, friendly staff. My room was very clean and comfortable. A nicely finished shower room. Several bathroom extras should you be in need ! My evening meal in the warm, traditional pub style restaurant was excellent. I had the Sizzling Chicken Fajitas. What a superb challenge high quality food and a generous portion. There is also an old style dance floor but no dancing tonight too full after dinning ! I had traditional Scottish breakfast excellent. Nothing more to be said except that I'll certainly be back. Hamish McSporran."

"we visited on a Sunday evening and had booked in advance we were disappointed that we sat right next to the toilet door. we asked to move too empty tables, but we said they were reserved for other bookings, so the only other option was to...sit on a high table next to the bar. we regretted sticking with the table we were assigned when the toilet door opened, all we could smell was the toilets during our meal. the other tables we had asked to move remained empty during our meal, which was disappointing. our food took minutes to come, which was only pizzas and the restaurant was not full. pizza was good when it came, but nothing special very thin. the staff is very polite, but we did not cost our meal and would not go back."

"Brilliant sandwich shop I must be one of their best customers! It's always busy, the staff are all friendly and the food is brilliant. They do filled rolls, baguettes, paninis, homemade soup, burgers, and hot filled rolls too. Their baking is also lovely they do massive scones with clotted cream, cheesecake, truffles etc. In winter time they have a roast and hot rolls/ baguettes which are great. Definitely recommended if you're about this way and need a bite to eat. I like the bacon, brie and cranberry paninis."

"After staying a couple of nights at The Bus Stop near Gifford, on the morning of check out we decided to visit the Loft Cafe for brunch. We had looked at it before,but never actually been. Really impressed with the style and atmosphere, also the service by the team was fantastic. A great selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch items, both from the menu and specials board. A really nice and also well presented flat white. There was also a really good selection of local produce, gifts and other goodies. Definitely somewhere we'll be back. Make sure you check out their little bakery across the square. Thank you to the team for accommodating us all as there was a group of 7 turning up on a busy Bank Holiday morning."

"I live a few minutes walk from this place and pass it often but had never been in before,although on passing by it always seems to do a decent trade.So after a blustery Sunday morning walk we decided to treat ourselves to the full breakfast. The decor is non existent save a few local prints for sale. The tables and chairs are cheaper than cheap wood, both our chairs and table were wobbly and the plastic table cloth was tacky to the touch. Basic menu printed then laminated, ordered two full breakfasts with coffee. Portion size was ok but even looking at it I could tell the food wasn 't going to be hot or good. The fried egg was burnt underside but then cold and congealing, the beans were cold, the hash brown was cold and was covered in little pieces of hard burnt debris, almost like it had been cooked in a dirty pan. Sausage was hot but of very poor quality. All came with one slice of thin white bread that looked like it had been wafted over the toasted rather than put in it. I am convinced the coffee was just nescafe instant. The plates had seen better days and mine was chipped but what really set my stomach heaving was the huge bottles of tomato and brown sauce that were put on the table. I would hate to even place a number on how many times these bottles had been used for refilling but the faded lettering would suggest pre 2000 's. They were absolutely filthy with heavily congealed lids and what looked like a solid mass at the bottom.Now I am aware that bottles are regularly refilled but to not even give the bottles a wipe and give the lids a proper wash is absolutely disgusting. I declined having sauce on my breakfast. There only seemed to be one man working and when he served us his hands didn 't look clean. I knew I was going to suffer for this experience and sure enough half way home I had to run and only made it to the bathroom in time. It is a shame that because this is a wee village this 'quality ' is all we can expect. Avoid like a dose of salmonella!"
