"The room itself was subpar. The corridors had creaky, uneven floorboards that made it feel like we were on a ship. To make matters worse, we had an infestation of woodlice in our room. We spent the entire weekend collecting them from the carpets and our belongings. Staff even had to remove around 30 of them from each light fixture in the bathroom, as they were scuttling around.
Every morning, local wildlife would make its presence known on the roof, scratching and wandering about all day, which made it feel like we were staying on a farm. On our first night, we had no hot water and were forced to take cold showers. When we contacted reception, they provided us with a drawn diagram explaining how to use the shower—essentially telling us that hot means cold, which would have been great to know during check-in. Taking a cold shower while heavily pregnant is no laughing matter.
The plumbing was also incredibly noisy, with loud sounds from the pipes when other guests were using their bathrooms, accompanied by gurgling noises in ours. The room had areas of dampness, broken plaster, and a window that we couldn’t close because of a faulty handle.
On the first morning, we ordered breakfast to our room, but only one meal arrived. After another call to reception, a second meal showed up much later, meaning we couldn't enjoy breakfast together. The following morning, when we requested breakfast at the time we initially booked, we were told that staff were too busy attending to a wedding party at the hotel and could only bring it an hour and a half earlier than scheduled. The service was abysmal, and the amenities were severely lacking—our room was simply not fit for guests.
Upon check-out, the staff refunded the overcharge, but that’s small consolation for such a terrible experience. I've submitted a letter of complaint and am awaiting a response. It’s really disappointing, especially since this is one of the main hotels in a lovely area where the local community works hard to attract tourism. Sadly, this hotel does a disservice to the community."
