"About midnight on Tuesday 20 Aug 2013, Nick Nairn tweeted that he was going to have a pop up at the Granite City Bar Grill where he's setting up in Sept/Oct this year. The menu was a choice of 4 starters, 4 main and 4 desserts for £37. We were shown to our table and introduced to our waitress seamlessly. Drinks were served timeously. The food order was taken a short time later and then the wait for our starter of about 20 minutes. I had monkfish muscles with puy lentils in a broth. My wife had the cheese soufflé with crispy pancetta. My fish was cooked to perfection (the best I'd ever had) the broth was tasty too, however the broth was far too powerful for the delicate fish and that was a disappointment. My wife's cheese soufflé was good but no wow factor. Main for me when it finally arrived around 3 minutes after the starter was lamb, dauphinoise potatoes, with peas and broad beans. The potatoes were creamy and tasty, the lamb tender but the whole thing was slightly on the cod side and served on a cold plate the runner beans I think could have been planted and hey would have grown. The presentation was also uninspiring. My wife had chicken, truffle potatoes and green beans. The chicken was moist and the potatoes/beans a good accompaniment but as with the lamb, he presentation was sloppy. Desert after I asked My Nairn to get a waitress to take our order, was for me the show stopper. I had apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream and it was lovely and crisp with a slight bite to the apple and a generous amount of caramel Mmmmmmm. My wife had the chocolate tart with caramel and crème fresh. Not being a desert person I assisted my lovely wife and thought it was a good tart but not enough of a chocolate punch. Mr Nairn came and spoke to us agreeing with some of the points made and informed us that there were issues in the kitchen which would receive a full revamp of the kitchen, dining area and that all staff would be undergoing training. I would have expected a little more and my overall thoughts are that it was a bit over priced for what was received and that as a test audience he might even have offered a substantial discount on the night as I know the food did not meet with his approval. That said there was enough promise to bring me back again once the refurb is complete."

"I don’t think Iv ever left a review but this one was a must! We couldn’t find a menu online so we phoned ahead to ask if there was one online , we were told there wasn’t one but she kindly took our email address and forwarded one over. On arriving we were lead through to a beautiful dining room by our waiter (we didn’t pick up his name) who made our visit perfect. We were served some beautiful warm bread with butter and water for the table which is always a nice touch when ur with child and hungry lol. My partner and myself both wanted fish and chips which was listed on the email but when the menu was brought out to us fish and chips wasn’t on it so when our waiter came over to take our orders we politely asked why and he told us that it wouldn’t be a problem for the chef to whip that up for us. It took about 10 minutes for it to come out and it was absolutely beautiful, the fish was so fresh, the batter was perfect, the chips were amazing and so was the tartare sauce 10/10! We ordered the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, the presentation was outstanding and the taste was to die for. We didn’t find it too expensive for what we got £68 for 4 dishes and 2 drinks. We have paid much more elsewhere for terrible service and food so we would definitely recommend it and next time visit Aberdeen we will definitely be returning! Thanks again Tapestry, keep up the good work"

"Thought we would try out the globe restaurant or cafe again at Aberdeen Airport departure lounge, having been a few times previously, and had terrible experience. Not busy, which was great, should be quick service. We ordered mocha and latte plus one vegetarian an one Scottish breakfast. They arrived within ten mins, however, not sure what the chef was doing in the kitchen that took so long, perhaps harvesting the vegetables himself or sorting through the fridge trying to eek out as many portions as possible. My Scottish breakfast contained one rasher of bacon, one egg, one sausage, one potato scone and a spoon of beans with a side of half a tomato. I was finished within 5 mins, cold beans, no toast, no black pudding, no haggis, certainly did not scream Scottish to me. The other half had vegetarian, scrambled egg which were really nice, pieces of yellow pepper an red pepper, fried, half a tomato, veggie haggis round an a mushroom. Most definitely not £17 worth!!! Absolute rip off and embarrassing. I could not serve that and ask for that price so not sure how or why they can. Hope the renevated new cafe restaurants due for completion April 2019 is fairer priced and offers better value for money. It would be worth perhaps evaluating portion sizes compared to selling prices as the globe is way off the mark. Overall disappointed again and will be buying sandwiches from now on going forward."
